Sketch up Scale corrupting in layout

Please can someone explain what is going on here. I have been getting quite often and no longer trust the scale in layout.

Model drawn in Sketch up and then imported to Layout. Sketch up model view top, scaled and scale locked. It used to be that when you pulled the grab handle it would simply adjust the amount of model displayed but this seems to now skew the model?!!

It would help if you share the LO file but I see two issues in your video. First, you are using the “Last saved SketchUp view” as the scene and second you have modified the Camera properties. Do things correctly in SketchUp first. Set up a scene with the camera set to Parallel Projection and the standard Top view. Insert the file into LayOut, set the scale as needed, then drag the edges of the viewport as desired to crop the view. Do not override the Camera properties either by manually selecting a standard view or Ortho and do not double click into the viewport to pane, zoom, or orbit the camera.

Thank you for your reply. I have a couple of work flows. One being the ‘correct’ way as you stated. But in the real world, combining CAD files and Sketch up files, aerial images in Layout I have to have control over the model directly from Layout. This has served me well for the past 15 years, using the preset standard views and scaling etc. However since 2026 release this is causing issues. Even when using the ‘correct’ method I have found that perspective view has turned itself on.

That doesn’t surprise me if your last saved view in SketchUp has the camera set to Perspectinve. That’s not unique to SU/LO 2026, though. I’ve seen it in models from other users since the first version of LayOut was released.

Using Last save SketchUp view as the scene makes your LO file extremely unpredictable. Overriding the Camera also does. From years of experience working with LO files from others, I’ve seen the mess and extra work doing those things creates. I’ve always avoided using the Last saved SketchUp view and avoided overriding the Camera and I’ve never had any problems. This is also why I teach my students the “correct” method.

I do know exactly what you mean, and most of my models are modelled correctly. However I still need to be able to trust the scale in Layout. If I override a view port or select a scale. This has never been an issue previously but lots has changed in 2026 release. Lots for the better but some nasty little bugs have crept in. I have work arounds for some but this one is causing a real issue. The bit I meant about the perspective is that even when parallel projection is used in the sketch up model resize or scale and it turns on in the layout menu.
