Layout Viewport Scale blanked out

Hi all. I began to use SketchUp this year, and now trying to make Layout work. When I save a scene in SketchUp and send to Layout I cannot then alter the viewport scale in Layout; the scale option is greyed out. Another thread explains that you have to select ‘parallel projection’ when you save the scene to start with, but when I do that the viewpoint I had chosen disappears and all I have is a view of the whole drawing. How do I get through this infuriating and seemingly unnecessary stumbling block please? Thanks in advance, Paul.

Share the LO file so we can see what you are working with.

Upload your Layout File as requested for the best answer of whats actually happening in your file.

Your camera must be an Orthographic projection in layout for “scale” to have any meaning. In Layout, under the sketchup model pallet right next to the “greyed out” scale option is a small check box for Ortho. Click that and see if the scales options turn black. A perspective image cannot have a scaled 2d representation.

If that makes the Scale selection available, reset the camera properties. Then go into the SketchUp model, select the scene, set the Camera to Parallel Projection, set the desired standard view, and update the scene. Save the changes and go back to the LayOut file to update the reference. After that you should be able to set the scale.

Leaving the camera properties modified for viewports in LayOut is a sure way to create more work for yourself later.

Thank you both. I have just followed your instructions Dave and am making progress. Now in Layout I can update the viewport and my scene comes in with the perspective I set. Then I can click ‘Ortho’ and a list of scales is made available, so thank you.

That’s not the instructions I gave you, though.

Set the Camera to Parallel Project and the appropriate standard view for the scene in SketchUp. Then you don’t need to manually select Ortho in LayOut. This will avoid the issues you’ll create for yourself when you override the Camera properties in LayOut.
