Shadows not saving in scene

Hi there,

I really hope someone can help me. I am learning Podium and have made a simple model. However, the shadows do not save to the scenes. They are visible in the thumbnail but when I open the file, the shadows are not visible. The UTC has not saved. I have definitely ticked all the properties boxes when updating the scene.

Can anyone please advise?

Thank you.

It would be helpful if you share the .skp file with us so we can see how you have it set up.

Guessing that maybe you have the model below the ground plane. Maybe you have set up the objects to not cast or receive shadows? Just guesses, though.

Thank you so much, Dave. Here is the file.

The shadows are showing. It’s just that the only light is from the “sun”. With the ceiling in place you won’t get shadows inside.

If you remove the ceiling then you’ll get shadows. Another option is to paint the faces of the ceiling that are towards the sun with a transparent material. This includes painting the back sidee of the bottom ceiling face. Paint the face toward the floor white or whatever color you want. In this example I just deleted the top face of the ceiling group and painted the inside with the gray glass material.

Thanks for that, Dave. I had it to UTC 12.00 so that the light was coming through the window and updated the scene. Then I saved the model and closed it. In the thumbnail, it looks as though it’s set to UTC 12.00 with the light coming in the window. However, when I open it, it’s as you saw it. Any suggestions as to how to save the scene with UTC 12.00?

Thank you

When I oped it the time offset was UTC-0700.

I set it to -1200 and updated the shadow setting for the scenes. You do have to update the scenes if you change the shadow settings.

By the way, I note incorrect tag usage in your model. ALL edges and faces should be created and remain untagged.

And even in your small model there are things to purge.

Thank you for that. I updated the scene after changing to -1200. But when I close and open the model, it has automatically gone back to -700. If you close and open the model is it still -1200?

Now I see what you mean. Go into Window>Model Info>Geo Location and set the manual location to your latitude and longitude.

Ah yes, ok. Thank you so much!
