Settings for font, lineweight, text and dimensionstyles always goes back to standard

Aha, did not understand that. I will try

I have the same problem when I convert a Layout file in SKP2023 to SKP2024.
Not sure if it happens in copying a Layout file from SKP2024 to SKP2024

What does this mean?

If I use a copy of a 2024 Layout file as a new file. Not sure what happens yet.

So a copy of a LayOut file, not a .skp file.

I just took an empty template and made some changes for the fonts and some linesettings and saved it as one of my own templates but it is still the same, my settings does not get saved.

I have been a trimble user for many years and used a lot of trimble software and one big issue has been that 1. i am swedish and we use ƅ,Ƅ and Ɩ in our alphabet wich sometimes are reading as specialcaracters. 2. My last name is Bergstrƶm wich is in my trimble id and it contains, as you can see, a Ɩ in it.
As a user of scan essentials in sketchup and has been a beta user for some of sketchup products i know both my language and trimble id has been a problem. It can show in many strange different ways. Could it be it this time also?

I would not expect this to be the case since you are able to save the file. Just for some reason, the tool settings are not being written out correctly for your files, and instead seem to always be using the default values.

This is very strange. I’m sorry I do not have a better answer for you right now, but we will be taking a look to see if we can figure this out.

Might try this:
Create a folder on the C: drive (eg. C\temp)

In LayOut, set the folder for templates in the preferences to that C:\temp.
Try to edit the font etc. and save as template.

Thanks for the tip but that did not work either :frowning:

Bumbing this thread. Just updated to 2025 and the issue is the same, the guys att the office have the same issue, any ideas anyone?

Do you have a template set up with all the settings for the font etc?

Yes, i would think so, or is there any special thing to do if i want it as a template? I just open layout, make som text and dimensioning etc with the fonts and settings i want and after save the project as a template. When i open it its has hone back to original layout settings. Been like this for a couple of years now. Not just for me, also for the guys in the office.

Are you making the text and dimensions the want you want, then using eyedropper, making a couple more text and dimensions, then saving as template?

If you don’t eye dropper and make a few new ones for each thing you want to setup in your template LO doesn’t know you are trying to set those as defaults.

Im not shure i know what you mean but this is how i do it:

  1. Open my LO
  2. Selecting create text and the default is set to ā€œverdanaā€. I change it to worksans and write something in the view.
  3. I select the text with line and arrow and also change it to worksans and change the line thickness.
  4. I select dimensioning and do the same as above and changes from arrows to /.

After i have done this steps when i choose one of the, text or dimensioning for example it changes to the correct font and settings all the time in that project/document. I save this ā€œas templateā€ and when i choose that template after restart im back to verdana as a font and arrows when choosing dimensioning.

Yeah, you need to try what I suggest.

Draw dimension, change it to what you want. Eye dropper, select dimension tool and make a new dimension.

Draw text. Change it to what you want. Eye dropper, make new text.

Draw leader. Change it to what you want. Eye dropper, make new leader.

Save as template.

See the SketchUp YouTube Channel for Template ides for Layout

Did not work im afraid, its the same. Here is a video of how i did it. In the end you see that its ā€œverdanaā€ font again.

I think this is a bug for me and my employees, we had this problem since atleast 2020, i dont think its a user problem. But the rest of the world dont have this issue so it must be connected to our trimble id:s, language or other trimble software we have installed on our computers. i will be really happy if it was a user problem. My surname has a special caracter, the swedish ƶ, and that was a problem some time ago when i did som beta for sketchup essentials but i dont think that is the problem now. Some of my employees have not any special caracter in their name and they also have the same issue in layout.

Instead of deleting the items before you save it - move it off to the side in the grey area. Then save it and then at least you can eye dropper it in future drawings.

Also - I don’t know the font ā€˜worksans’ you are trying to use - but what happens if you use a standard font that is ā€˜regular’ on Windows? I wonder if the font is the issue.

I went through the same steps you did and it works as expected for me.

Where is your template being saved?

I wonder if it could have something to do with the fonts you are choosing. I don’t have the two fonts you are using to test with them but we have seen some other fonts in the past that didn’t play nicely with LayOut because of the way they were made.

What happens if instead of those fonts you choose something like Arial or Times New Roman?
