I would suggest updating your profile to include more information about your hardware and software environment. What version of Sketchup are you using? What version of windows 10? Win Pro? Win Home? What intel display adapter? What computer manufacturer? What type of computer? Desktop? Notebook? What are your habits in using it? Do you shut it down between usage or just put it in sleep mode?
I also use win 10 and have intel graphics and I refuse to settle for having to block updates to windows just so SU will work.
The batch file didnāt work for me either Steve. Thanks for trying anyway. The only thing that has been consistent since last June (for me anyway) is to restart the computer (not shutdown and start up again) and the problem goes away. The slow selection tool problem actually went away for a couple of months for me until the latest Windows update today. I just restarted the computer now and it works fine again, Donāt know why. It just does.
I am sorry, I just updated my profile
My configuration is as follows:
HP Probook 450, CPU: i5 6th generation, GPU: IntelĀ® HD Graphics 520, OS: Win 10 Pro 64b, Sketchup Pro 2017.
XVX I see at the intel sight the latest driver for the 520 and your os was release on 5/22/2018. The script TheGuz mentioned is for SU2018.
Unfortunately for you I canāt make any recommendations. All I can say is what I have done in the past when the select tool lags. I had managed to get by for a year or more by rolling back drivers and disabling windows updates but that wasnāt acceptable to me. I tweaked other applications on my notebook that use the display adapter but I made so many adjustments Iām not sure it had the desirable effect or not. Finally a few months ago I UNINSTALLED my display adapter after which it was reinstalled. Since then I have had two or three updates from windows and if the select tool lags, a restart of the computer fixes itā¦(sometimes as many as 3 restarts) And as SirKnight saidā¦I donāt know why, it just does.
If you are using version 2017 as your profile says, it wonāt work. It only works for SketchUp Pro 2018.
Following a Win10 update, this morning, on my Surfacebook selection was taking 5-10 seconds⦠really painful! Sketchup was unusable. Fortunately the batch file sorted the problem; thank you āTheGuzā so much.
For anyone using SU2018, who are experiencing an issue even after installing the patch, I would be interested in researching memory usage over time. For instance, launching the Resource Monitor just after SketchUp starts and again every half hour while working on the same model. Iām looking to see if there is a steady climb in memory usage over time or if memory usage caps out after a while. If there is NOT a steady climb over time, then I would be interested to know what percent of CPU usage is over time, especially when the slow down is noticed.
I was experiencing REALLY long delays with the select tool, perhaps more than 60 seconds, and Iād swear sometimes even longer.
Iām using SU Make 2017 on Windows 10 64-bit using a Thinkpad T530 with an Nvidia GPU.
I had INSTANT success with a simple change:
- Right click on your Desktop and open the Nvidia Control Panel.
- Under 3D Settings, Manage 3D settings, select the Program Settings tab, then under ā1. Select a program to customize:ā use the pull down box and select Trimble Sketchup (you may need to navigate to find the .exe file if it does not show up). Now under ā2. Select the preferred graphics processor for this program:ā and use the pull down to select High Performance Nvidia processor. Down at the bottom right of the window click the Apply button.
When I restarted āSU Makeā it ran like a fancy race car, the difference in the Select tool speed is absolutely stunning on my computer. Your mileage may vary depending on your OS and GPU. But in my case this was an immediate fix. Good Luck.
I am using SU Make 2017 on a 2013 Samsung notebook (Win10, 64 bit) and have had the ongoing slow slect behaviour for 18 months. The notebook has inbuilt INTEL HD Graphics 4000 inbuit graphics hardware. The driver which works OK for me is ā¦Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 Version: 10.18.4242 [16/06/2015]
Windows 10 forced its latest upgrade 2 days ago on 25 June 2018 ( Verison 1803 Home Edition Build 17134.112) to my notebook, prior to which the slow slection tool had reappeared yet again. I tried all the graphics driver updates/rollbacks I had used in the past and nothing worked.
So ⦠in desperation ⦠yesterday I simply restarted the notebook 3 times, starting no applications after the desktop settled to standby ⦠just restarted again, then again, then again ā¦as others have already testified in the epistle above here. Slow selection problem WENT AWAY⦠all back to normal fast selection !!
All during yesterday and again today, after about 2 more restarts during the day the slow selection problem has DISAPPEARED !!! My experience in the past is that this (GOOD) situation will hold for some time ahead. I simply cannot comprehend how restarting win10, with no driver change makes the issue go away !!!
Can anybody suggest what actually happens during the multiple Win10 restart sequence which would change the graphics behaviour when NOTHING other that restart has been changed. Absolutely BEATS ME !!
Iāve been saying this for over a year now. It would be nice if someone could explain this to me tooā¦
You probably need to talk to someone at Microsoft. Or wait for the guy to call from āWindowsā with the news that your computer has problems.
I think itās the birth of Artificial Intelligence! Rebooting is like behavior modification therapy!
Check to see if you have the latest BIOS version installed. Also use a removal tool to remove the display driver, then install the latest version of the driver from the Acer website
My bios is indeed out of date.
Yet the next win10 update to my Samsung notebook yesterday 10 July 2018 ā¦yet again slow select tool immediately after that update⦠⦠yet again 3 notebook restarts, no other action, takes 1 minute to do total ⦠yet again select tool FAST and NORMALā¦all fixed ⦠YAY !!! ā¦why is it so?
I have the same problem, very slow selection, running on my old Thinkpad wtih Interl HD Graphics 4000 and Win10, 64bit.
My most recent successful attempt in solving this problem.
- Go to Windows setting Apps & Features, delete existing Intel Processor Graphics driver.
- Reboot the PC
- Install the latest Intel Processor Graphics Drive (win64_15.33.46.4885)
- Reboot the PC
By the second reboot, the problem was solved. Hope it works for you all.
Asegúrese de que cada uno de sus complementos (extensiones) figuren como compatibles con su versión de SketchUp. Si, en Extension Warehouse, no dice que es compatible con SU versión de SketchUp, es probable que cause problemas.
Please make sure that each of your plug-ins (extensions) are listed as being compatible with your version of SketchUp. If, in the Extension Warehouse, it doesnāt say it is compatible with YOUR version of SketchUp it is likely to cause issues.
Muchas gracias!!! me sirvió de mucho, ya lo estoy probando y funciona perfectamente.
utilice la herramienta WindowsSlowSelectionWorkaround.bat
Thanks RLGL, latest BIOS was installed last year and display driver was removed with removal tool and reinstalled from Acerās website a number of times before I noticed that just restarting the laptop solves the problem. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 restarts and sometimes it just works fine from a cold boot. Would be nice to know why.
