Saving and accessing favorite collections Materials-->colors

Hello all.
Materials window in default tray allows keeping a favorite collection. I’ve tried for 2 years to master this, and got close.

I select ‘open or create favorite files’ from the default tray, and the system opens this file address C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp. I have empty folders in this location. They are DunnEdwards collections. Somehow I was able to set it up, but I can’t get anything saved in it. So it remains empty.
My life will open up if I can master this feature. Can you help me?

Thank you.
Chris

You have some small squares at the bottom of the palette. Drag the color there and then change to your palette and do the reverse operation.

On the Mac.

I thought on Windows too.

No problem. Then as simple as selecting the colors of the model above and the own library below and dragging from one to the other

Oh, Learned One.

I’m talking about uploading colors from Dunn Edwards paint company in california. I got it from the extension link, and it saved to my personal computer and also to one drive. I can’t content from those files into a folder in materials section.
Also, I have fabric from companies online that I would like to access from materials.
What do you think?

If you have a skm file you only have to place it into your materials folder.
You can access to that folder from Preferences in sketchup.

Non of the files marked .skm have content. even if it did, how do I perform this task?

Can you share one of the skm files in order to show you how to do it?

Hello, and thank you. I don’t have skm…where file explorer shows they are there, the icon is empty and no file opens. Would you, then, tell me how to use skm?

re skm. Here is a copy of file explorer showing skm files are empty

[quote="Chrismfisc, post:11, I just realized it is skb I’m having trouble with.

I can only assume you want a link to the file.

The real problem is, when I follow the simple directions posted previously, the link from Sketch up takes me to a folder I can’t save anything in. The folder is alway blank.

Here’s the practice file:

(https://C:\Users\chris\Desktop\Sketch Up\Sketchup\Applying colors and wallpaper.skp)

The process given to me aleady is:
go into Materials, you’ll select
create or open collections, my file explorer opens to my files to this file folder at this address:

[The favorites folder](https://C:\Users\chris\AppData\Roaming\SketchUp\SketchUp 2024\SketchUp\Materials)
Then I open the one file there, and get this image.

I saved a photo of the color here to alternately save into my colors, but photo isnt there.
(yes I saved the photo of the color, there.)

Alternately, if I enter HEX codes every time for every color, what will I do about uploading fabrics I need into materials.

So hopefully with this link you can go through the process and see what I mean.

Thank you,
Chris Fischer

I’m so excited to say I found the solution. Cheers!!! I’m so excited. Here’s the problem. Microsoft allows only one file path to interact with Sketchup. That pathway goes only to OneDrive. I preferred not to utilize OneDrive, and save everything to my laptop (so as to avoid paying for new storage). But, I can’t add materials and colors to the onedrive folder (ergo empty files) for sketchup to access and bring into my SU model. Thanks to all for giving it a go.!!!

I should edit the above to add the obvious, for clarity. I reinstalled onedrive and I must use it with sketchup. As soon as it was reinstated, sketchup linked to the onedrive wherein I ‘save’ materials I want to use in sketchup, including paint selections.

I thought I solved the issue. I’m afraid there is a lack of understanding on my part.Saving and accessing favorite collections Materials–>colors

Hello,

I thought I had this resolved, but I don’t know how the paint selections finally uploaded to my sku materials. I dont know how I did, and now I cannot upload fabric. Somebody please straighten me out?

Hoping this link works. If not, I’ll continue in a reply.

Hello,

My skm files can only be accessed by search in file explorer.
how do I add the extension skm to the drop down file type when save as.

Otherwise I have to import jpgs to an skm file, which I know how to create.

ps, i found skm by searching in os/c: but i can’t access it from sketchup. thank you for mentioning the skm files. Now how do I get access from, or save to, or import to sketchup materials?

Thank you so much for your help in this matter!
Chris

Correction:

,which I don’t know how to create

How do I get the skm files that I can only find by a search in os, into a folder accessible by materials? Please, and thank you!

Chris

Follow this steps:

-Place your skm files inside it:

-Restart SketchUp and you will see your materials here:
