Orbit will work fine because you can’t move the ground plane. But since you have the model axis orientation screwed up, this affects the orientation of the component axes and results in the components inserting incorrectly in other models whose axes are orientated correctly. In order to make your components insert as you would expect them to, you need to place their axes correctly.

It makes so much more sense when you are doing it in the animated GIF. Much easier your way.
This is the problem with being the only one in my work team that uses SketchUp. Working in a vacuum is not the best way to learn stuff.
