Rendering of a Section Cut with Outlines

Hi,

I would like to make a rendering of a section cut view in perspective, with the Material Override option on, and with the addition of the Vray Outlines feature. My goal is to render the section so that interior parts are visibly separated. Whenever I toggle Outlines on, the entire model is outlined, both in front of and beyond the section plane.

Is the result I’m after possible? Is there another method? I’m a novice at Vray.

When I want to do this sort of thing I set up the aspect ratio of the rendered image to match that of the SketchUp model window and then export a Hidden Line image to combine with the rendered image. This is a quickie example. I didn’t spend any time in Vray and the only change I made was to the aspect ratio. Simple and quick.

If you only want the section lines and none of the others, turn off Edges and Profiles in the style in SketchUp.

That would work! But when I export the Hidden Line .png image with the background turned off, and pull it into Layout, the surfaces are still solid. Is there a Hidden Line mode setting I’ve missed?

Who said anything about LayOut? Just combine the images in an image editor. Put the Hidden Line image on a layer over the render and set the Blend mode to Multiply. I would also suggest editing the section file for the style to white so it doesn’t make the section fill in the render darker.

I’ll have to find a free image editor first before I combine and set the Blend mode to multiply. I don’t have Photoshop unfortunately. Thanks for the help. I’ll report back if any issues.

I use PaintDotNet. It’s free and very powerful.

Thank you very much Dave.

If you want to use only V-Ray.

also check photopea.

it’s a more basic photoshop, with a similar interface, but in your browser.

cool thing is, many photoshop tutorials can kinda apply to it.
