In Sketchup, I’m getting this warning when I attempt to save a scene. But I didn’t modify the styles, so I’m not really understanding why Sketchup thinks I did. What should I do with it? Thanks-

It indicates you did something that changed the style. Maybe enable section cuts or turned off section planes? There is something that is different from the style you had set.
The deal with this is you need to figure out if you have a new style that is different from what you previously used or if you maybe already have a suitable style applied to another scene or is this an update you want to apply to any other scenes using that style. If it’s the first, choose Save as a new style. If it’s the second, cancel the scene creation, select the appropriate existing style and create the scene. If it’s the last option, select Update the selected style.
Don’t choose Do nothing and do not disable this message. If you do you will create problems for yourself. I’ve only been helping others learning to use Sketchup for about 16 years but in all that time I’ve never seen anyone who has disabled the warning actually manage the styles correctly.
I think I see what I did. Somehow in the Styles tray, I managed to set the pulldown to “Assorted Styles”, whereas I was initially working in “Default Styles”. So if I understand your advice correctly, I should set it back to “Default Styles”, then select “Update the selected style”, is that right?
Simply changing which collection is visible under the Select tab won’t cause this warning. If you look at the large style thumbnail in the upper left corner of the Styles panel, it would have circular arrows on it indicating the style has been modified but not updated. You must have made some edit to the existing style in order to get that warning to show.
You could go to the In Model styles (click the house icon) and choose the style you were using. That would remove any changes you might have made to the style.
Click on the Edit tab and then look through the various setting options by clicking on the cube icons to see what sort of properties are part of the style. Maybe you turned on Hidden Geometry? Maybe you changed the face style? Maybe you turned off Profile edges? There’s a lot of properties that are associated with the style
Ok. I did exactly what you told me and I got it cleared up. Warning box is no longer popping up, and I can save scenes. Thanks again-
Good. It would still be worth investigating what change you might have made to the style. It might be some change you actually want. There are cases where you might need to edit the style and then create a new one. This warning isn’t preventing you from creating a new scene, it’s just telling you that you need to make a decision about the style settings.
Usually for me I’ve added a section cut or set something as minimal as changing front or back face colors or turning shadows on.
Look at the bottom of the Scenes tray; it tells you what characteristics you’ve set or modified. Making changes there also sends the warning.
Keep in mind that each and every scene can have different settings saved with it. When you update it only affects the scene you made the changes to. You’ll have to revise other scenes to match.
You can bulk update numerous scenes at once in the Scenes tray by holding CTRL and selecting the ones you want to update. Select UPDATE in the tray. (circling arrows at the top/left of the tray)
Shadow settings are not style properties. Turning shadows on will not modify the style and so will not induce the style warning window to display when creating or updating a scene.
No. That’s not correct. The style warning window the OP asked about will only appear if style properties are changed and the style has not been updated before creating or updating a scene. Changing which scene properties to save will not make the style warning appear.
