I’m not sure this is the correct forum for this. This certainly isn’t a bug. I just have a newb question and don’t see any other place for this.
I’d like to know if it’s possible to push/pull multiple objects. Let’s say I’ve built a cabinet. I need to make one just like it, except that the new one must be 4" longer. I can select the end pieces and move them 4" away, but now there are several pieces that need to be adjusted - the base, back, shelves, toe kick, rails, etc. Is there any simple way to select many objects and stretch them all the same distance?
If each part is a group or component, you’d need to edit each one separately but you could manage it with Fredoscale. It depends upon what you need out of the model.
First, no, there is no multiple Push/Pull, that is, not at once. You can repeat the last executed P/P on another face simply by double-clicking it, and you can keep double-clicking face after face. Still, it’s one-at-a-time.
Your instinct about using the Move tool is, I think, right on. As long as they’re all in the same context (not in separate groups or components), you can select any number of edges you’d like to move together without changing the spacing between them and just move them together as a unit, thereby stretching them the same distance.
If all the parts are groups or components, you can multi-select them and apply the scale tool to the entire selection at the same time. But be warned that this may not be what you wanted: it scales everything inside the group or component. For example, if one component is a door, when you scale it the stiles will become proportionally wider along with the whole. So far as I know, none of the other built-in tools will operate on separate contexts (groups or components) at the same time.
Edit: I meant tools that modify the geometry. Rotate and move will operate on multiple groups or components at the same time.
I am not sure if this is what you intended, but simple functionality of “multiple push/pull” is possible with Fredo - Joint Push-Pull
Keep in mind,
In addition to what people have described above, even in native scale tool, you can type in the total distance such as 4’ in VCB to get overall dimension as 4’ (you must include the unit for the distance)
