I’m having problems copying and pasting any 3D models from the warehouse into my file. When I go to paste it into the model I’ve been working on I can still see the cursor where it wants me to pick a point of insertion but the model is completely invisible and as soon as I click to place it somewhere it doesn’t show up and I can’t select it so it’s like it’s not there at all. I’m fairly new to sketchup so it may be something simple but this is only a recent problem, I have usually had no problems with this. I’ve tried exploding it completely and pasting but it still doesn’t work. I’m using SketchUp Pro 2018.
There are a couple of possibilities that come to mind. Common ones are your the model or the component you are inserting from the Warehouse is at the wrong scale. Or the component may be at a great distance from its insertion point. If you are actually copying and pasting, you may be creating other issues.
Share the SKP file with us so we can see exactly what you have going on. Then we can tell you exactly without having to guess. Also tell was what it is you are trying to get from the Warehouse.
It was the scale! Thank you. Such a simple thing. Was trying to paste the worlds tiniest table into my model and just couldn’t see it.
Which was at the wrong scale?
You aren’t actually trying to use cope and paste, are you?
It turns out the drawing I was given was in metres when I thought it was millimetres. The scale of the models I was putting into my model was fine. Whoops.
Yes I have been copying and pasting. Should I be doing it another way?
Looks like you need to fix the house first.
Don’t copy and paste from the Warehouse. If you are accessing the components through the Components panel in SketchUp, just click on them and move the cursor into the model space. If you are accessing it through the 3D Warehouse UI panel, you will find a download button to click.
If youaren’t certain about the suitability of the component you are getting from the Warehouse, you should be bringing it into a separate SketchUp file to check it out before putting it into your main model. If you do that you can copy and paste from one SketchUp file to the other
I was unaware of these panels and their uses. Thank you for informing me. Game changer…
