Printing Full Scale

I am trying to print a project in full scale to be used as a template for cutting. I am using Sketchup Pro versioin 23.1.340 64 bit. I have a Cannon MG7520 printer. I have updated firmware and drivers to the printer. After reading many posts and watching many videos, I just dont seem to have the same screens and information after clicking print. I also dont have a print preview or setup. In Layout, I find a similare situation. There is no “set scale” that I can find. When I print to a pdf file I have similar problems.

When I click print I can select printer and click on properties which gives me this window.

I have tried most everything here. When I go back to preview I only have one page and the drawing is either blank or squeezed onto the single page.

Any help would be appreciated… Ive used Sketchup for quite some time and I honestly think I have done this in the past.

Thanks, Mitch

You probably did do this in the past but Printing to scale in SketchUp was removed in SketchUp 2023. This sort of thing is better done in LayOut, anyway.

BTW, please update your forum profile. It shows you’re using the free web version.

Thanks Dave, I will check the profile. I would love to do it in Layout but Im having no luck there either.

Share the SketchUp file and I’ll set it up in LayOut so you can see. Or share the LayOut file so I can see what you need to change from what you’ve done.

Both… thank you

OK. In the SketchUp file you haven’t created a scene for the view you want and in your LayOut file you’ve modified the Camera properties from the SketchUp model. Note the Last saved SketchUp view and the Reset button in the Camera section of the SketchUp Model panel.

Resetting the camera shows you haven’t set the camera to Parallel Projection.

I set up your SketchUp file with a scene showing the model as needed with the appropriate standard view and Parallel Projection. Then I relinked the reference in LayOut to the saved file, reset the Camera and set the scale as desired. I also set the style for the scene to Hidden Line so there wouldn’t be all the color to print.

Here’s the LayOut file. You can extract the SketchUp model by right clicking on the viewport and selecting Open with SketchUp.

As for printing it, first use File>Export>PDF. Export a PDF file and open it in Acrobat or Reader and print from there. Unless you have access to a large format printer you’ll want to use the Poster Print option in Acrobat or Reader to print this thing. You could also email the PDF to a print shop for printing, too.

Based on the height of this you could choose a custom paper size in Document Setup>Paper to reduce the number of sheets used in poster printing.

I have gone through this now. I originally set my camera in SU to Parrallel projectioin and a Top view. I did not make a scene though. Im trying to find the layout file that you set up. Am I missing it?

Sorry. I thought I’d uploaded it.

And another version with less paper waste.

Dave, thank you so much. In the end I installed Reader and it worked great. Now to see if I can reproduce what you did.

I printed this out then started to put it together yesterday. It was too big. I counted the pages and there were 24. The print menu in Reader says 10 which is what the preview screen shows. Measuring the image on the template, it is 50" wide. It should be 37 11/16. Other settings look the same as on your screenshot. It is as if the printer is scaling it up? Any ideas?

Can you show the print settings in Adobe Reader? How much overlap did you set? This is what I see in Reader’s Print settings. This is using the smaller paper version.

Maybe you should send the PDF to a local office supply shop that can print it on one sheet.

My print settings look the same as yours. I went into my printer properties and saw options for borderless printing. I checked those options and it seems to be working now. It is doing 10 pages now. I need to put it together and measure it. Thanks again! I will let you know how it goes.

Ah, borderless printing would be required. Good that you got the settings workedout.
