Preview of file on Mac and PC

WINDOWS
Windows Explorer supports thumbnail previews. But, there have been problems reported involving the preview pane on windows. See the thread here.

We have found a bug that has a workaround. The “file currently locked by another user” message seen when the preview pane in windows explorer is open and the file is opened by double clicking. Some people get a “read only” version when opening.

You can get a preview on Windows:

1. Open Windows Explorer and click the file you would like to be previewed. The Preview pane needs to be on (Organize → Layout → Preview Pane)
2. Within SketchUp the only way to view the .skp files is with SU browser window in thumbnail view (which should be default) via the “open file” SU browser

MAC
There are a few workarounds to get a “preview” on a mac. Check out the original thread here, and see below:
