I have been using SketchUp for Web for the past 3 years with no problems at all. I use it for designing bespoke kitchens etc. I had created some drawings, downloaded them fine and had to come back to amend the drawings. Now when I download the image is blurred and isn’t as crisp.
Just wondering if that’s a new update to encourage people to buy a SketchUp subscription or whether it is a problem with my laptop? I did have a message pop up saying it recommends me using an external graphics card. It’s not just on this one drawing, I tried just drawing a rectangle and that still didn’t download properly.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I’ve attached a photos of my current situation.
The pixelation you show looks like a graphics artifact.
I expect the message you saw actually indicated that a discrete graphics card is recommended over an intgrated one.
Probably the latter, not the former. You could try updating the graphics drivers for whatever graphics card you have and see if that helps.
So you’re using SketchUp Free for your business?
You really need to be using SketchUp Shop or SketchUp for Desktop. Using the free version as your profile inidcates is a violation of the EULA. You would be able to get better image output from the desktop version as there is more control. You could also use LayOut to create a more professional product.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to reply to my dilemma.
I will look in to purchasing a graphics card for my laptop. As you may have realised, with how I describe technical issues, I’m not the most intelligent when it comes to computers. Maybe my laptop is beginning to get dated and perhaps I should ask someone I know who’s more clued up to see what the recommend.
I’m going to buy a sketchup subscription, I didn’t realise it’s only about £100 for a lifelong ownership, which will offer more features compared to the free one.
If I may ask you a question, whether you know the answer, as someone who’s been using a computer mouse to draw with, how easy would it be to transition to something like an iPad? When it comes to drawing with a pencil I’m not the best.
Please sign up for SketchUp Pro, you are using it for work…
That doesn’t seem right:
With the Desktop version (pro) you can use extensions and LayOut. OpenCutList - a free extension - would be something that might help with planning your cut lists, materials, pricing, etc.
Could be. Maybe you can find a local computer shop to help you sort out your hardware.
FWIW, I wasn’t referring to an external GPU but rather one that is not built into the CPU.
Where did you find that?
It’s different but certainly not unlearnable. I’m not a great one to ask, though. I’m left handed but use a mouse with my right hand. I find it slower working with SketchUp on the iPad with the Apple pencil. 22 years of working in SketchUp with a mouse in my right hand is hard to get over.
You are correct, that doesn’t seem right, I went back to where I saw it online and it was from some dodgy website.
I will hold my hands up, I tried the free web version 3 years ago to test the water to see whether I could get used to it, as it worked I just carried on with the web version. I can see now that it was unethical and I will purchase SketchUp pro, after all it’ll be worked in with customer invoices etc. Thank you.
I’ll go a speak to someone I know who’s works in IT, after all bashing together wood to make furniture is my forte.
sorry to keep bothering you, why now, after 3 years has this problem occurred? Signs of a dying laptop? I mean it’s a £499 laptop from curry’s which I originally bought to write emails on.
And just to be clear, the images are fine when on SketchUp itself, I have no issues, once downloaded and I view it in my desktop that’s when it becomes bluryy
It’s no bother. It could be signs of a dying laptop although my guess is that the graphics processor isn’t that great and its drivers aren’t up to date. That’s the most common issue.
Before you update to SketchUp Pro you will want to make sure your computer hardware is suitable. Graphics software these days tends to require better graphics cards.
You’ve been unbelievably helpful, and I very much appreciate your time. I can’t believe within 5 minutes of me posting you came back to me with valid responses.
I will go and do my research to see what’s within my budget and will be up to running SketchUp Pro. Maybe in the meanwhile I’ll stop ignoring certain notifications telling me to update desktop etc (once again, not aware of the consequences it may have).
I won’t take any more of your precious time, and once again I’m very greatdul.
Technically, from the images you posted, the first “pixelated” one would indicate that the display didn’t use any “antialiasing” while the second has some level of antialiasing turned on. I don’t know how this could be managed from within the Web version of SketchUp. Did you use SketchUp through the same Internet browser for both images?
Yes the drawings were still open on the same browser when I made the adjustments.
I’m currently just purchasing the Pro version, Despite DaveR’ suggestion, at least I can see whether this works and I can proceed drawing without it being a violation, and then update my laptop If necessary (which I imagine it will need)
I have never really used the web version - so I don’t know what the export options are for images - but if it looks good on the screen you are in… you could just take a screenshot of it.
I believe on Windows it is Windows key + Shift + S to get the snipping tool and you can window what you want to capture.
That’s what’s baffled me, SketchUp runs fines, the software is clear, all the objects I draw are crisp, when I press download to turn it in to an image that’s when it goes wrong.
Anyway as highlighted above, I’ll purchase the subscription so it’s not wrong in how I’m currently using it.
FYI there are several flavors of SketchUp including Pro which is amazing and allows all kinds of control and workflows, but also SketchUp Go which is a web version just like free version you have been using that is licensed for commercial use. Go is significantly less expensive. SketchUp Pro is great, but you should examine all the options and make the best choice for you.
Why cant all forums be filled with kind people like those have replied to me?
-informative.
-fast replying.
-kind, not one sarcastic comment, just pure facts and advise.
Thank you all.
As someone who has been using SketchUp web, it has everything I need. I’m just building rectangle with some colours, I would imagine SketchUp Go would suit me best. I’m a one man band, and have to draw a few cabinets on it a year, there’s probably so many more advanced features on the pro which I unfortunately wouldn’t use.
