Please Remind Me How to Download for SketchUp Make

Could someone please remind me how to download files from the 3D Warehouse and import them into SketchUp Make?

I’m a hobby user who can’t justify buying the pro version but occasionally have need to download from the warehouse rather than reinventing a drawing already done better than I can do.,

Go to the 3D Warehouse website, and download the model as a colada file (.dae), then import from sketchup make. Since you don’t have a subscription you have limited downloads and you’ll probably have to watch some ads.

In your we browser go to the 3D Warehouse and search for the object you want. Click on the dropdown arrow for the download and select the Collada file.

Unpack the .dae file and the folder containing the materials into a folder. Then in SketchUp use File>Import to import the .dae file.

you can also check SU4U’s plugin in the warehouse to save as an earlier version. it doesn’t require a modern version, it’s stand-alone.

Isn’t that meant for users of version 2024 or newer where saving to older formats is disabled from the UI?

You might try if Christina Eneroth’s Open Newer version works for you

no, you’re talking about Dezmo’s  Eneroth’s is only on PC.
su4u has one that is a standalone app, it reads and converts to an older version (2017 by default I’d say)

so many free solutions

Go to the website and just hit “download” (just the regular skp file no dae/gltf which tend have a lot of problems).

Install this plugin and just go to the menu File “Open newer version” (not the regular “Open”).
Job done.

Thank you all for the responses.

I followed the links and was able to download the file, ene_legacy_save_v1.0.2.rbz. Then I ran into trouble.

As I understand them, the instructions say to open SU (Make in my case) and use Extension Manager (found at Window>Extension Manager, in my case) and choose Install Extension. I don’t see that option; instead I see Update SketchUp. When I follow that option I’m only offered the option to upgrade to a new version of SU.

What am I doing wrong?

Whoops! I was not logged in. After logging in, I saw the Install Extension option, chose it, then selected the .rbz file. The Eneroth extension now appears in the Extension Manager List.

Where do I go from here? How do I engage the extension when I want to download a file from the Warehouse? My apologies for being so dense. I’m riding this old rock around the Sun for the 85th time and I fear my faculties are diminishing.

It’s not the right plugin.
What you need is ene_open_newer_version_v1.0.8.rbz

Where can I find that file (ene_open_newer_version_v1.0.8.rbz)? It doesn’t appear for me at https://extensions.sketchup.com. Should I be looking elsewhere?

You should look at the image from my previous comment

I see the image but don’t see a URL. SU seems to be open in its own window but no URL is visible in that window or in the containing window.

Just do THIS.

it was already posted here :

I don’t doubt that the PEBKAC protocol is in play. After all, I’m 84 years old. :older_person:

Please be patient.

I think I have downloaded and installed the newer version by eneroth.

As I understand it, when I visit the 3D Warehouse and download a file, I should be able to use the File > Import function to open it in an SU file; but that doesn’t work. I get the old message saying that the object was created in a newer version of SU.

What do I not understand? What am I doing wrong?
