I was stunned to see a Layout sheet exported to PDF had heavily pixelated my inserted PDF, that was originally exported from CAD. (I draw in multiple apps-- CAD, Revit, Sketchup, etc). Please tell me there’s a fix for this. I’ve tried a lot to fix it, no dice. All rendering resolutions are set to high. PDF on its own is flawless/vector. I just want it to stay vector in Layout so when I export the entire PDF if vector. Thanks.
PDF files insert into LayOut as raster images. If you want vector line work insert a vector file instead of a PDF. Make a DWG or DXF to insert instead.

also, any non vector file inserted in layout will look heavily pixelated. That’s a behaviour other similar apps have, like InDesign. you can change that in the file’s setup panel.
the export, by default, will be cleaner.
Which version of SketchUp and LayOut are you using? Complete and update your forum profile. In the current version you select Output Quality in Document Setup>Rendering. This is not related to inserting raster images. It’s only related to output/export.
As for the grayed out .dwg business, are you using File>Insert or File>Open. With File>Insert the .dwg should be available.

Cannot share the file, it’s confidential. What were you hoping to learn from it? Maybe I can find that info.
I was hoping to try inserting it into LayOut on a different machine to see if there’s a different result.
You still haven’t told us what version of SketchUp and LayOut you are using and I find it difficult to belive you’re still using the ancient OS version listed in your profile.
I’m not saying you can change the way it’s imported.
I’m saying that if the pixellisation bothers you, it’s covered here, in the Rendering part
you can make the things less pixelated on screen.

yes. It was in regard to the “heavily pixelated” part, depending on whether you’re on high or medium, it would make a difference.
other than that, no, layout doesn’t import PDFs as vector. no trick to apply here.

Output Override only applies to raster rendered viewports from SketchUp.
JPEG compression makes line art type images look terrible, with ugly pixelated artifacts. It works adequately with photograph-like images only. Turning it off makes the exporter use lossless PNG compression only.
I wonder if the pixelation you see is already in the imported image.
A free way to create vector DWG/DXF files of PDF pages is to open the PDF in the free Inkscape application and save it there as DXF.

What settings did you choose when you inserted it?
It’s very difficult to help without having the files you’re working with. We have to guess at a lot.
The import creates multiple display issues-- equipment schedules are blank, MTEXT is not the correct/original size nor XY location, balloon callouts do not have their ID #s, lineweights are all over the place (incorrect), frozen layers are visible. It’s a mess, not something I can work with. Here’s a very tight closeup that I can share showing most of these issues. I’ve tried importing in paper space, model space, as SU model ref and also not (unchecked that option). I’ve tried just about every option/combination I can see. Maybe I’ve missed the one that does the trick? I’m still left with a very basic use case problem-- trying to use LayOut to coordinate multiple drawings from both SketchUp and AutoCAD and export as a single drawing set retaining vector line work.
