.pdf insert into Layout blurry

Hi all, Im trying to insert and scale a downloaded .pdf of Construction Best Practices into a 24x36 (sheet size) plan set template. this is for construction docs. Im able to get the pdf inserted but it’s very blurry. Ive tried resizing the .pdf page size to 24x32 to account for the title bar but still no luck. Any ideas?

PDFs insert into LayOut as raster images and will not appear as sharp as they do in PDF viewer. The resolution of images is normally reduced for display to help improve graphics performance but you can set the output to High if needed in Document Setup>Rendering. It may also help you disable jpg compression in the Export settings when you export the project to PDF.

Thank you again Dave R, see the attached file

What happens when you export it to PDF using High settings?

Unfortunately LayOut on Windows won’t display PDF files. It works on Mac because of the operating system. In any case I presume you are talking about the BMPs file. First of all, there’s no way all that text will be sharp in raster form. It’s going to look less sharp within LayOut because you have Image Display Resolution set to Medium.

Since that’s already a PDF and your project is on the same paper size it would make more sense omit the BMPs from your LO document, export the PDF from LO and them combine the two in Acrobat or another PPDF editor. That way you’ll keep the vector text instead of converting it to a raster image.

Alternatively, if you must have the information in your LO project file, copy the text into some sort of text file or a spreadsheet and insert that into LayOut.

Hi Dave, thanks for your help on this. FYI, im on a Mac not Windows, I tried to update my profile, but am now unsure how to confirm. Setting the document resolution did the trick. Thank you.

I assumed that since you were asking about a blurry PDF inserted into LayOut.

Good enough.

You’re welcome.
