Don’t kn ow wha tI have done - perhaps hit a key that I shouldn’t have done but now can’t pan when using mouse left click and the shift key. Any ideas anyone what I have done wrong? Many thanks

You mean restart programme or switch off computer and restart?
Switch off and restart no change!
Usually we just use mouse middle button for Orbit, and SHIFT+MMB for Pan.
Did you change the assignment of mouse buttons in Control Panel ?
If not, test using another mouse to eliminate the possibility of worn out mouse button switches.
