Painting a satellite image of my condo

Hello: My HOA says I need to pick out a new color for my condo. Is there a way I can change paint colors from using an imported satellite view of my condo? I was easily able to import the image of the house into SketchUp, but SketchUp won’t allow me to try different paint options, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Renee

If you’ve got a photograph of your condo, edit it in an image editor to change the color. Use the right tool for the job.

A satellite photo would be looking down on your house, you know, from a satellite. It might tell you your roof color, but I’m guessing you’re talking about your exterior: (siding, trim, etc). As @DaveR noted, SketchUp is a 3D modeling program so you would first need to model your house, from photos if you like, and then apply different colors to the actual 3D geometry. Which sounds like more effort than you need/want.

I haven’t looked at their terms of use, but if it is available for your location an image from Google maps street view might give a better starting point than satellite.

If it was street level view, that could be done by going outside and taking a picture. If there’s a reason it needs to be a top down view, SketchUp can do something to help.

Import the image that is the top down view, as an Image. Right-click and explode the image. Use the line tool to trace around the part you want to change color. Right-click on the inside of the area you made, and choose Make Unique Texture.

In the Colors palette, Colors in Model, double-click on the new texture you just made. Click on the pencils in the Colors palette, and then try clicking on different colored pencils.

That will colorize the photo.

what do you usually use Sketchup Pro for?

if you are not comfortable with photo editing you could use this website to pick a house style similar to yours and use its interactive features to colour it as you want,

I usually use it for interior design.

Walk outside. Take photos of your house.

Use Photoshop or Gimp or whatever to selectively alter the color of your house.

Or try this or similar options:
