Orbit tool won't rotate in one plane only

Hi. I am a casual user. Just upgraded from an old free version to a new free version, and the orbit tool is different. I can’t rotate things in a single plane. Is there a way to do this? Are there different settings for the behavior of the orbit tool?

The Orbit tool has never orbited in just one plane. It works now exactly as it always has.

The only adjustment you can make to its behavior is to hold Ctrl (Option on Mac) and then roll the camera.

You may have your model incorrectly orientated.
Solid Blue up, Solid Red to the right, Sold Green going into the distance.
