hi
So this is the second time i’ve had to redo my entire project because the second time my sketchup file randomly starts to not respond. I’ve tried to rename the backup file but that one doesn’t respond either. I don’t know what to do!
upload one or both files here to be diagnosed. When SketchUp hangs or stops responding what are you doing? It’s possible that the software is running a long or complex operation that takes time to complete.
Which version of SketchUp are you actually using? TYour profile says “SketchUp for Schools” and “2024 Desktop”. SketchUp for Schools is a web based version for young school children. Is that what you are using?
in that case im using sketchup 2024 desktop
Please correct your forum profile. Do you have an EDU license or is it SketchUp Pro or Studio subscription?
As @endlessfix requested, share your SketchUp file so we can see what you’ve got and give you guidance for sorting it out.
there has to be a easier way for me to share the file. it won’t load on here. what do you suggest
How big is your file, how many MB? If it’s very large that might also explain SketchUP hanging or stalling. For files larger than 16mb, upload them to a file sharing service like dropbox or google drive and post the link here. Don’t forget to make the folder or file public so we can download it.
I had a look at your file. It wasn’t too sluggish on my machine but I went ahead and did my usualy cleanup. First I fixed incorrect tag usage. ALL edges and faces should be created AND remain untagged. Only groups and components should be given tags.
I purged unused content. Seems you’re hoarding a lot of components and materials.
There’s no point in keeping stuff you aren’t using. That just reduces performance.
I also reduced the size of the excessively large remaining textures.
That reduced file size by a third. You could use some simpler, lighter components for the entourage and that would reduce the load on your computer.
There’s a ton of geometry in the bed, for example.
Even worse is the bathtub. It’s extremely obese with excessive geometry. Look at those feet!
Do you need the hex nuts in the feet? Do you need all fittings on the plumbing?
The faucent and shower handle are nice if your model is only about them but if it was I doubt you would have bothered with the other rooms. As it is, the whole thing “costs” too much for what it brings to your overall model.
FWIW, a message oof Not Responding doesn’t mean SketchUp has crashed. It normally means SketchUp is busy doing something and won’t repsond to further input from you until it’s finished.the fittings
wow. you’re a life saver. thank you!!!
Thank you for that.
FWIW, here your .skp after I cleaned it up. I would suggest more cleanup or replacing heavy components with lighter ones but I’ll leave that for you to do.
