No template selection when starting up Sketchup

When I am starting up SketchUp my template view is completely blank. All I can do is close that window and the SketchUp automatically shuts down. I am using MacBook Pro and MacOS 14.6.1. Am I the only one, and does anyone know how to resolve the issue?

Your forum profile shows you are using SketchUp 2020. That version doesn’t support Mac OS 14.6.1 so it could be that is the issue. Did it work previously and just change recently?

Yes, I upgraded to 14.6.1 this morning. So that might be it. Do I need to upgrade to another SketchUp version or what?

If you’re going to stick with 14.6 you’ll need to use a SketchUp version that supports it. That would be SketchUp 2024. Presumably you have a current SketchUp Pro subscription so you can upgrade to 2024 at no charge. Upgrading to the current version will also get you access to the Warehouses and Location services, too.

Brilliant, thanks DaveR!

You’re quite welcome.

FWIW, going forward it’s a good idea to let applications you depend on get updated to support the operating system before you upgrade the operating system. There’s another Mac OS version release scheduled for today (I assume it has happened already) but SketchUp 2024 doesn’t officially support it so there’s no assurance it’ll work. You probably want to avoid updating the OS again for awhile.

For your interest, the welcome screen is effectively a web page, and I noticed a while ago that SketchUp 2019 and 2020 show it as blank. I did log a bug report about that. On Mac you can close the blank window and still start a new document from the File menu.

Is this related to the web services like the Warehouses that are no longer supported in those version?

No, if anything that page ought to be working to promote upgrading to later versions! I think it’s a web page compatibility issue with the version of Chromium that is inside 2019 and 2020.
