Need help: Importing AutoCAD File to SketchUp

I’m new to this and I’m encountering an issue when importing an AutoCAD file into SketchUp. The imported geometry does not properly join to form a plane or does not create face, preventing me from extruding.

Would anyone be able to guide me on properly importing AutoCAD file into an existing SketchUp model? Alternatively, if tracing the walls manually is the best approach, any tips or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Though I tried tracing it and it is still not working :frowning:

I’m happy to share the AutoCAD file if needed. Thank you in advance for your help!

The problem is with the autocad file. Some times the drawings aren’t on the same z level but it’s not noticeable working on 2D, just when you export it to another 3D software or orbit on autocad. You can fix it on autocad using the command FLATTEN, on sketchup there are different ways to do it, I use vertex tools and scale to 0 on the z axis. By the way, if you want to have a cleaner model, it’s better to use the dwg file just as a reference and model on top of it. Usually dwg files have some mistakes that aren’t noticeable.

If the CAD linework is sloppy, I would recommend grouping it and using it only as a guide to model on top. If it is not planar, move it a bit up from your intended floor plane, create a large rectangle to use as a “drawing paper” at the floor plane level. Then you can use the “on face” inference to keep all your new edges planar.
