Hi when I load my 3d model and I try to share with others, I hope you can add a function just like share videos in Youtube: share the link but it is not shown public. The ones who get your link can see your model but in the same time your model not shown in public.
By this way more models will uplaoded into 3d warehouse. because most creators only want to share his model to some people. For me I not want to upload all my models, because after you upload to 3d warehouse either the model become public or private. It is meaningless. hope the 3dware house engineer can listen to my words and updated it.
sorry I don’t know trimble connect, but I mean when I load the 3d model onto warehouse, I just hope to share my 3d model with the people who know the model’s link same as I share a video in youtube.
Maybe there is some complicated function, but it is not suitable for me, and I just want to share by a simple way. I am not a professional website master.
You can do that if you upload your model to Trimble Connect. You can share the file so it can only be viewed or so they can download and work with the file as you choose.
You have unlimited storage available with your SketchUP Pro subscription.
You do have a SketchUp Pro subscription, right? You aren’t using a cr acked version are you? You could be saving copies of all your models to your Trimble Connect storage at least as a backup.
I try this but it is not what I mean. this one is like a cooperation platform.
maybe my express not clear enough. let me explain my meaning step by step again.
when I upload the 3d model I make onto 3d warehouse, and there are two options: private and public.
If I choose private, no one can see my 3d model. it is meaningless I would rather store my 3d model in my computer.
if I choose public, everyone can review it, but everyone can download my 3d model. however I don’t want everyone download my 3d model. so
can I have the third option: only I share the 3d model’s link to some people, then they can review my 3d model, better cannot download it just review. it is same as you share videos in youtube unpublicly.
Why this, because if 3d warehouse has such type of sharing 3d models, I believe many many creators are willing to share their 3d models on 3d warehouse. because I believe lots of creators want to share to some special people rather than public. I think 3d warehouse makers should consider my suggestion. it is good for sketchup development.
You can use it to share your models with whomever you want. If you give them the link they can download it to their computer and use it however they like. Other than those you share the link with, no one else will have access to your models. It’s exactly what you are asking for.
yes I just try it, you can share the 3d model to some people, but those people will sign in trimble platform. what I hope is that when I share the link the people just open the link in whatever browser and can review the 3d model. If I not make mistake many years ago, I share the link of the 3d model in 3d warehouse, my customers can review my model just in Broswer without sign in or sign up 3d warehouse. it is just this “a little” simple way to let all my customers willing to open my 3d warehouse, otherwise maybe 5% customers are willing to sign up any platform firstly.
I agree with James, trimble connect is interesting but its not the same.
I wish private models in the warehouse could be seen by other with a direct specific link, like documents in google drive.
trimble connect requires knowing the interface and the way it works. it means having the TC files visible in my recent list on launch. and if you don’t use TC frequently enough… well I don’t like it there, and I try to avoid going to TC as much as I can.
but… I have (ok, had) a few private models in the warehouse, they were here as storage, contribution to the 3dW that I wanted to modify before public release.
no way to send a link to someone to show them / give them, unless I put it back to public.
the 3d warehouse can be used a gallery, a portfolio, and you may want to keep a couple elements private to most but visible to some, with a direct link to the direct page.
TC is a collaboration platform.
You need a sketchup account to see in browser and download from the warehouse, but you don’t need one to just browse through my models. that’s the difference between them.
Trimble Connect does have a lot of collaboration features that are more than you are asking for. But, if you happen to have saved the model in Trimble Connect, a new feature in SketchUp would let you give a link to someone for them to view your model. They do not have to go to Trimble Connect.
I just offered an option that is available to you NOW.
You could also use DropBox or We Transfer or any of a number of file sharing services to share the file with others. There are plenty of options that are available now while you wait for a feature to be added that might never come.
