Hello. Brand new to Sketchup. Using Sketchup Pro 2022 and following along with the Sketchup classes with Alex. In the tutorials, all shapes automatically make faces, but my shapes don’t. I am in the 2D view (Plan Template). My shapes just stay as shapes with white in-fill, not the blue that I see on the tutorials. Any ideas why or how to fix? Thanks!
I expect what you are doing is comparing what you are seeing to a video made in an older version. Several versions back they changed the behavior so that instead of creating blue back faces up when drawing shapes on the ground plane, white front faces are up. Don’t worry about it. It’s all fine.
BTW, you put “2022” as the operating system in your profile. What are you really using? Windows or Mac? And what version?
I wondered if that might be the case. I noticed some other slight variations between what I was seeing on my screen and what was shown on the tutorial. Any idea if there are tutorials specific to the version you have? Thanks DaveR.
Ha! Windows.
Look at learn.sketchup.com and the SketchUp Square One videos on their YouTube channel.

I fixed the profile and looked up the Graphics info. Also, I mostly need to create 2D plans for construction. Is there a tutorial you can recommend for that sort of thing?
Once you’ve gone through the fundamentals and the Square One videos you should be pretty well set. Keep in mind that SketchUp is a 3D modeling application. For the most part, you would do well to model in 3D and then create your 2D plan and elevation views from the 3D model using LayOut to create the documentation. It will actually be easier and result in less work to do that than to work only in 2D.
