Moving an object in a particular object

Did you turn on the cross hair as @endlessfix told you? If you did then the axis will follow your cursor around.

Yes I did.

So now you can see the axis all the time.

I see the axis with dotted lines only after I start to move the object.

I tested a number of settings and a number of tools with crosshairs turned on. Line, rectangle, circle, tape, etc. displayed the crosshairs right away. The Move tool required a small movement of the cursor before the crosshairs displayed. Can you try making a small mouse movement after activating the Move tool to make sure it’s working?

crosshairs activates automatically whenever you pick a drawing or a moving tool. even without clicking on the model, even before moving or anything, as soon as the tool is active.

(at the start of the video it looks like they appear with the select tool. it’s just a visual glitch due to me starting the capture)

But you are moving cuboid in all directions

Yes, what is your question? With the crosshair active you can see the axis, so you know what is red green blue. And you also can use the up left and right arrow keys to lock the movement, or start the movement and hold the shift key. I am struggling to understand what problem you are having.

Thank for trying to understand.

When you press the right or arrow does anything changes on the screen? if not then Why not?

Draw a cube. Be sure to make it a group.
Press space bar.
Click the cube once to select it.
Press M.
Click once anywhere in the model - but not on the cube.
Start moving the mouse. The cube will move.
Tap the left arrow key.
Move the mouse again - the movement will be LOCKED to the green axis.
Tap the left arrow key again. The movement will be free again.
Tap the right arrow key. The movement will be locked on the red axis.

I still don’t understand what you are having trouble with.

so, 4 situations :

  • first, I simply move. no arrow nothing. the crosshair is here as a crutch, nothing more.
  • second, after starting my move I press once on the up arrow. as you can see, the blue axis gets bolder meaning It’s locked. I can move my mouse anywhere on screen, it’ll only move up and down.
  • thirdly, I do the same with the left arrow, making it green-locked.
  • fourthly I do it with the right arrow, for a red-lock.

the change IS on screen. it’s twofold, first as soon as you press an arrow, the corresponding axis gets bolder. and second, once axis lock activated, you can move wherever you want on screen, it’ll only move along the locked axis.

after starting my move? I am saying that locked axis should be highlighted prior to the move of the object.

@aceyourplace - it doesn’t work that way, it never has, and if it could work that way it would only make sense if someone had the cross hairs turned on.

Many people model without the cross hairs on, which means the axis would only show the inference lock once you start, and not show the axis at the cursor location.

You seem stuck on this - hopefully you can overcome this and enjoy using the software.

I’m pretty sure this falls under Heisenberg’s incertitude theorem. you can either know where the cube is, or where it’s moving to, but not both at the same time.

some tools like rotate or circle allow you to lock before clicking anything because they operate on a plan. locking the plan means they basically work 2d on it.
afaik, on the ipad you select the specific move tool you need. the blue move tool, the red move tool… because ipads don’t have keyboards.
