Mouse Wheel Zooming Too Sensitive

Thanks a lot for the suggestion about AMS Smooth Zoom, as I had the same problem.
I’d like only to mention that the easiest way to check if it’s the problem is to click Extensions at menu bar, check if yu have AMS Smooth Zoom and then > Uncheck Enable.
But to be ohnest it’s better to leave it on and change some parameters in it’s options. I liked Intensity at 0,4 or 0,5; Transition 0,25 and FPS 60. That way it works a little faster than in plain Sketchup, but smoothly. At Intensity 0,2 it’s almst like in plain Sketchup.
The problem with deafult settings of this plugin are high Intensity and long transition, so You managed to scroll your mouse too much because the transition is soo long.
All checked at Sketchup 2018, 1920x1080 screen resolution, parameters may vary depending on resolution.

I just experienced this myself. Solution for me was to turn off Logitech Smooth Scrolling.

Thanks @Geo!

AMS Smooth Zoom is the problem, remove it from my computer resolve my problem…
Thank’s alot…

you are a life saver , thank you very much

There is one way that can help you at some extent…
Goto Setting>>Devices and printers>>Mouse & Touchpad. Now you will see an option called " How many line to scroll at a time". Just reduce the scale and the problem is solved…

Success!!
I have a Logitech Ergo Mouse. This fixed my issue. Thank you!

I tried the methods suggested and still haven’t found a proper solution.

I have overcome it by adding a ‘floor’ under whatever I’m drawing - a large flat rectangle with a few mm thickness and it helps a bit.

Any other suggestions for a permanent solution welcome. I always use the scroll on the mouse for zoom and this problem really affects productivity

The key concept is this…
Control of scroll wheel zooming is all about cursor position.

• SketchUp’s camera follows the cursor while zooming with the scroll wheel.
• Scroll wheel zoom speed varies, based upon the distance between camera and cursor position.

It follows that…
• Placing the cursor on geometry far away or in empty space and the camera zooms faster.
• Conversely, placing the cursor on nearby geometry and the camera zooms slower.
• Notice it becomes progressively slower as one continues to zoom in.

A recent project, modeling wire shelving, served to remind me of the need to be conscious of precisely where one places the cursor, especially while zooming in.

By nature, a wire shelf is far more empty space than wire.
It was easy to zoom past the model by simply misplacing the cursor in the empty model space between the wires.

Your adding a ‘floor’ creates a large nearby target for the cursor which in turn slows zoom speed.
It’s a good trick when working with sparse geometry, like contour lines or even wire shelves.

I have started with the magic mouse, which supports zoom with its scroll gesture. However, practically it is not good, especially for 3d applications. So I bought a high-quality Logitech Bluetooth Mouse. In fact, with that mouse, I have a new challenge to keep zoom in control. I am too pissed off with crazy dynamic zoom. Especially when closer to any object and try to orbit (which is the middle button, the scroll wheel), it jumps often. It is frustrating. Another issue is, when I am closer to the surface, it zooms so slow. OMG, it is frustrating.

Don’t know if this is the right place to ask, but I have the same problem with Zoom; anytime I zoom in or out anywhere, the zooming is too speedy. It goes fast, and it’s difficult to use…
Only I doen’t use a mouse, but just the pc’s touchpad. Other than when zooming, the cursor moves at normal speed.
I am on another pc with Make 2017.
I wondered if there was any way to adjust the zoom speed?
Thank-you!

Buy a cheap scroll wheel mouse and watch your modelling experience instantly improve.

Ok, thanks ! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I have a very simple solution! Put your cursor over an object or plane and it will zoom nicely. Put the cursor on a line and it will be all funny.
