Mouse scroll wheel zooms in instead of rotating screen

I’m glad it’s working again, Bill. Maybe you just weren’t holding your tongue right?

Good luck moving forward.

If I stuck my tongue out any further, I’d be licking the screen…

Ah… not very intuitive. Clicking on Point and Scroll shows me a screen with a pic of my mouse with text that identifies the Scroll Wheel and indicates the Pointer speed. If you mouse over the wheel, the text box turns purple. Click on the text (not intuitive) and the Scroll wheel settings dialog is displayed. Makes sense that they would give you a dialog for changing settings. Doesn’t make sense that you would have to click on a text box to display it.

Logitech has more than one software app to control their devices. I have Logi Options and Logitech Options, neither of which can detect my M705 or its receiver. Methinks they need to get their act together.

that’s because it needs Logi Option+

I don’t know why at some point they branched into two separate softwares, normal and +

A couple of days ago, I got a popup notifying me that the old editions were being sun-setted, and that I needed to update to Logi Options+, which is actually what I had installed. (I had tried the other older editions and uninstalled them.)

P.S. - My mouse is a high-definition M650 bluetooth RF edition. It works great with SketchUp on my UHD display.

Well… you have the “old” software. The new app is Logi Options+. Older versions won’t work with newer hardware. Frankly, older versions were famously buggy and seldom worked at all. My mouse is now working again as advertised. As far as I know, I did nothing that could have fixed it, but I’m not going to complain… that is, until it stops working again.

Of course I do…; I have the Logitech 510 inbound. Will report back here how it handles the wheel. EDIT: Turns out I do have Logi Options+, which could not find my M705 either. I hate to abandon this mouse, as its ergonomics are excellent, but if it can’t control SU, then the M510 will have to do.

From the logitech web site: Customizing the M705 mouse with Logitech SetPoint software

Thanks, but that link to the download is a dead end. Logitech no longer offers or supports SetPoint. It has been succeeded by Logi Options+ which, as I noted earlier, does not recognize my M705.

Possibly try contacting Logitech support for a solution.

Gave up on the 705; the M510 arrived yesterday and works like a charm right out of the box; no software settings needed for SU. The wheel behaves as you would hope and the mouse fits nicely in my hand. To the OP, I would recommend this mouse in a heartbeat. And, it’s affordable. For $23, it solved the issue.

I have started to experience this few years ago for the first time. I think it started either after some upgrade, while I tried to enable “trackpad” settings for pointing device and then some major SU upgrade came in.
My partial workaround here is to enable “trackpad” settings again and set “Two-finger swipe mapped to” - Orbit. Now it works with MOUSE almost as expected, but still zoom is not working for mouse wheel, only with ctrl.

I second the recommendation of the M510. I’ve used them for years with excellent service. I’ve worn the feet off of several of them but have never had buttons fail or misbehave.

I realize I am a bit late to this thread but FYI I have a new Logitech 705 that was zooming madly when I was trying to orbit so I turned off the side to side action for the middle button (set it to forward/back - apparently holding the middle button down engaged the side action which has a zoom in/out default)
