I feel like it would be more intuitive for the “SHIFT + Z” zoom to take the camera to the extents of the group/component being worked on instead of the whole model? Not sure if this is something I can customise or would be a feature request however.
Also the shortcut “Camera/Standard Views/Top” seems to throw the camera out sometimes. Rather than aligning the camera above what is being viewed it seems to pick a random location often miles away from my original subject? (Thus my first comment wanting to be able to quickly zoom back)
use or/and add a shortcut to view > component edit > hide rest of model.
That way, when activated, shift+z will zoom extent only to the group/component being edited
I personnally also added a shortcut to hide similar components
No it does happen on large models but this is kind of a separate issue from the zoom extents. I have the Camera/Standard Views/Top shortcut to X but then I press that it will sometimes just flick to a different area from what I was looking at when normally it just orbits the camera into a plan view. Not sure the cause for this but I just wanted a quick workaround…
FWIW, I have Z set for Zoom Extents and Shift+Z set to Zoom Selection. Between those and H for Hide rest of model. I don’t have any trouble quickly zooming to whatever I need.
