Is there still no solution for mixing line weights in SU? The drawings I’m creating are full of machinery for which my company makes wear-parts. I’d like to be able to use a heavier line weight on my parts so they stand out in the drawing. It would be even better if I could color the line with red. Filling our parts with a color is not an option as it’s not consistent with our marketing and branding standards.
You can colour the line by changing the Edge style to Color By Material.
And then paint the edges as you want.
Lines in SketchUp are really considered edges that create face boundaries. Noraml edges are 1 pixel wide. You can set Profile edges to appear heavier but those are the only weight options. You can color the edges either all the same, by layer or by material.
Okay, I’m trying to figure out how to make a white material with red edges now…
Wow, I’m not 100% sure how I did it but I just created two boxes. one with red edges and the other with black. This could be a game changer for me. Thanks very much. Now I just have to see if I can repeat it.
Okay, here is what I did: Select the entire object that needs to have red edges - all faces and edges. color it red. Then deselect everything and paint each surface individually with white. The edges stay red and my white on white product is highlighted. Then in Photoshop. select only the red pixels > expand 1 pixel and fill with the same red. Waa Laa! Bold red highlighting.
You could make it a lot easier to color the edges. Switch to Wireframe face style, select all of the edges and paint them red. Switch back to Shaded or Shaded with Textures. Red edges and whatever color the faces were before going to Wireframe.
Thanks I’ll give that a try too.
When you make the selection of the edges, drag a selection box around them. If you triple click to select them all, you’ll get the faces, too.
Right except if my object is touching other objects then they get selected too by the triple click trick. I can work this out with layers and grouping. Thanks for the help.
Each object ought to already be in a different group or component. Layers won’t provide separation.
