I don’t think this is a Medeek issue. But idk.
Im using a beefy Laptop, SU 2025, Lord of the Toolbars, SpaceMouse,
It just stops
01 - Pilgrim Lodge v2.01.skp (5.1 MB)
I have found the cause: When using my space mouse, I can click to activate the draw wall tool, but immediately after the click, there is a moment of limbo. Before I move the mouse, the 3D preview of the wall hasn’t been created. If I use the space mouse to orbit before the 3D preview is generated, SketchUp crashes immediately.
I will try turning on 2D previews. This issue has completely halted any kind of work with the wall tools. It was through much trial and testing that I managed to complete the exterior and garage walls.
EDIT:
This issue is not present in SUv2022. Just v2025.
EDIT 2: This issue is only present in 2025 when using the new graphics engine.
Can anyone recreate this issue?
Requires:
- Medeek wall (latest preferred)
- Spacemouse
- SUv2025
Hardly anything has changed with the wall tools at a basic level in three or four years. So code changes on my end are not the issue here, at least as far ask I can tell. What version of the graphics engine are you using?
When I updated to SU '25 and Spacemouse I noticed that an Overlay was added for Spacemouse and that the center of rotation gizmo would appear in the model space. Try ‘hide’ for the Rotation Center in 3DxWare, Advanced. Then also look in Overlays panel and see if the Spacemouse overlay is enabled. I don’t recall if I restarted SU but the overlay was removed in the Overlay panel.
Aaron also had the rotation center showing when he had installed the latest version. The use of an overlay may be a new thing, and either of the things 3DxJFD said may help. It didn’t seem to interfere with Aaron’s modeling.
Couple of things not related to your question…
I have recently seen a case where a lot of errors would appear in Ruby Console if SketchUp had been installed by double-clicking. The errors would go away if SketchUp was installed as admin. That problem is being looked into. You might still try a run as admin repair of SketchUp, see if that helps.
What PDF importer are you using? Does it import vectors?
It does import vectors. John Brocks PDF Importer.
Can’t find this setting.
I was using the new graphics engine, and when I turned it off, the issue was no longer present.
3D Connexion → Advanced settings → Rotation Center (bottom item = radio check “Hide”).
I can’t recall if unchecking that AND unchecking the Overlay turned it off or if I also turned it (the Overlay) off in the Extension Manager. One way or another it went away
I must be missing something:
Must have last clicked in SU for the correct context sensitive menu
You have bdcam selected:
Click back into the SketchUp model space. Look to the Advanced Settings (left menu, not 3D Connexion Home). Then look next to Navigation Modes, Rotation Center.
Negative on fixing the issue.
Did 3D Connexion show up in the Overlay panel for you? When I updated, the show on motion option was enabled (which had never happened before) and there was an entry in the Overlay panel.
It did. It is still there, but its check box is blank, and the setting you helped me find in 3DX is set to “Hide”.
Insta-splat behavior is still present
Restart? Extension Manager? If I recall, turning it off in EM disabled the Spacemouse. But maybe by turning it on and off, it updated to get rid of the Overlay.
Negative: No change after completing those steps.
I remember being disappointed that I couldn’t get rid of the entry in the Overlay tray after turning off the show on motion rotation center. I’m presuming I restarted SU and/or the computer (then some magic happened) and ‘poof’ it was no longer there. But if the rotation center is turned off, it shouldn’t be popping up when you move and hence not crashing when you use the Medeek tool (if it is the culprit). Have you tried winning the lottery and taking a vacation? That could solve the issue.
Unfortunatly that would just put me on the beach somewhere trying to figure this out.
Was it crashing on you before you got the overlay disabled?
Me too. I like to work. A vacation would be aggravating to me… especially knowing my Spacemouse was on the fritz.
No. It was not crashing. The rotation center was just popping up when I moved the puck. I’m not a rotation center puck user, so I started looking for how to turn it off. First, I looked in 3DConnection app and found the ‘Hide’ option. Later I saw it in the Overlays. Both options turned off the center of rotation. But I didn’t want it in the Overlay panel/tray… then something happened… and it was gone.
But it was just a guess that the center of rotation popping up could crash while using the Medeek tool. Maybe disable/unistall the Spacemouse to test whether it is what’s crashing Medeek?
