I am new to Sketchup and am having trouble with the measurements dialog box. The measurements are wildly innacurate. For instance, I drew a short line along the red axis and it measures ~ 339350’ 11" - Also, I have tried entering the measurement I want and the line dissapears when I hit enter. What is going on? Thanks!
Is the line at the origin?
Disable length snapping.
Are you zoomed out?
Go to the Sketchup campus and SketchUp YouTube
Both offer great tutorials and videos that should help with your questions.
I’ve watched several Sketchup school videos and none have been helpful for this problem. I’m not zoomed out far at all. I’ve also tried adjusting the units.
This could be an installation issue. I cannot assist; I am on Windows.
Share the.skp file with the short edge that is over 300,000 feet long.
You’ve surely got the camera positioned miles from the origin.
I understand the image shows Feet. In understandable units, the line is more than 103 kilometers long.
Just so you know, the dialog box you show is called the Entity Info window, not the “measurements dialog box”. Measurements is the name of the dimensions display box normally at the lower right corner of the SketchUp window:
The symptoms you describe certainly suggest that the view is zoomed out so that what looks short in the view is actually quite large. And when you enter the length you really wanted, the extreme zoom makes it so small on the view that you can’t see it. So, after correcting the length and making sure the camera is in perspective (Camera->Perspective), do a zoom extents (Camera->Zoom Extents).
True. I was on my phone so the image was small.
No wonder it seems to disappear when you enter the right length if what you see on screen is kilometers long.
If you draw the earth and wanted to draw a balloon instead, do you think you’ll be able to spot it ?
Press shift + z after doing so, it’ll zoom extent to the whole model
