Linking Viewports Skt 26

I’m having an issue with LayOut 2026. When I open a document, several SketchUp viewports display yellow warning symbols, even though automatic updating is enabled and the SketchUp model is shown as “Current” under Document Setup > References. The viewports only update when I select them and manually click “Render.” This is happening in more than one LayOut file. Has anyone experienced this or found a solution?

Can you share the LO file so we can see what you are working with?

Where are you saving the SketchUp and LayOut files while working on them?

The SketchUp and LayOut files are stored in the same project folder on Google Drive and are synchronized with local copies on my computer. I work directly with these locally available files through the G: drive. I have always worked this way without any issues, and this problem has only started recently. It is now affecting several LayOut files. I can share a sample file if needed.

It’s possible that the file being referenced is not the local copy but is instead the one in the Google cloud. If that’s the case a delay in accessing the SketchUp reference could account for what you are seeing.

LayOut 2026 has NOT changed recently so it’s unlikely that LayOut is to blame here. Fundamental troubleshooting technique is to start with what changed since things worked normally.

I did ask you to share the file.

I sent you the links via private message.

I saw that but as I wrote in my reply, you have to make the files accessible.

I’ve had a look at your model and the LO file. Both files are saved in the Downloads folder on my C:/ drive. When I make a small modification to the SketchUp file all of the viewports in the LO file update almost instantly. There are few viewports set up to render as Vector that take a moment longer to update but that’s to be expected.

I would suggest that you copy the SketchUp and LayOut files to a folder that is not synced or in anyway linked to Google Drive and see what you get. Even disconnect your computer from the internet to make sure you are working locally.

By the way, working on files saved to the cloud has proven catastrophic for many users. Even though you’ve gotten away with it up to now you might get caught out. Save your files to a truly internal drive location and if you must use Google Drive, copy the files there. Don’t save them there from SketchUp or LayOut. Also, if you aren’t, you should be saving backup copies of your files to Trimble Connect. It’s included in your Pro subscription.

FWIW, you should purge the LayOut file. There are a few unused references. I went through the SketchUp model to fix incorrect tag usage, purge unused stuff and do some other cleanup which reduced the SketchUp file and reduced edge count significantly. You could do that and see an improvement in render times in LayOut.

I would also suggest that you resize your render images. The first one I looked at wants to be about 68 cm wide but you are using it at only 19 cm wide. I resized it to that in an image editor which reduced its file size by 93%. Doing that to all of the render images would have a big impact on the size of the LayOut file and make saving backups out to your Google Drive faster. Appropriately sizing the images before inserting them into LayOut would make them easier to insert, too.

Are you still using Windows 10? Please update your forum profile.

Thank you for testing the files and for the detailed analysis.
I tested it as suggested: I copied both files to a folder on my C: drive, disconnected from the internet, and removed the Enscape-rendered images from the LayOut file. Unfortunately, the problem still occurs—the viewports do not update automatically and only update when I manually click “Render.”

Yes, I’m using Windows 10.

Are you having to click Render for each viewport? I don’t have to do that in LO 2026. Updating the reference either in Document Setup or by right clicking on a viewport and clicking Update Model Reference makes LayOut go through all of the viewports and render them.

Windows 10 is not supported for SketchUp 2026.

Yes, I have to click “Render” for each viewport individually. What I find strange is that this issue only started a few days ago, even though nothing has changed on my laptop. It has had the same hardware and system configuration since SketchUp 2026 was released.

In any case, thank you very much for your help and support.

Evidently something has changed. As I wrote before, LayOut hasn’t changed. It hasn’t changed in months. Something else must be the cause..

Is the G drive an external one?

This was the problem. Automatic rendering was disabled in Preferences. Once I enabled it, the viewports started updating automatically again. Thank you for your help.

Ah … In your first post you wrote:

So I didn’t think we needed to explore that in Preferences. At least it’s sorted.
