Hi, I’ve turned edges off in settings as it was showing too many lines in plants id got from 3d warehouse. this now means I can’t draw lines that show for a decking section. is there a way I can draw the lines for the decking without turning edges back on ? Thanks
Try softening or hiding the edges in the downloaded component. Turning edges off sort of defeats the purpose. If you attached the offending plant we could show you how to fix it. Best to download things into a blank model space and fix them before adding them to your model.
A better way would be to apply a tag o the offending plants and turn off its visibility.
These are the screenshots with edges on and off. Im not exactly sure what you mean, I “edit component” on the plants ?
Here’s an example from 3D Warehouse, where the author took the time to make each leaf be smooth and softened, with hidden edges. The one on the right is as it comes from 3DW, the one on the left is what it would look like without the softening and hiding.
To hide the edges you would tunnel down into a single leaf, select all, right-click Select/Deselect Faces, then Edit/Hide. All places that leaf is used would then have hidden edges.
Thanks for this. Ive had a go and it doesn’t seem to work. Ive managed to find ‘decking’ in the 3 d warehouse as a material but its orientation is the wrong way, is there a way to change this ?
learn.sketchup.com is a great place to learn the basics of SketchUp.
Seems to me these are pretty basic questions.
If it doesn’t work you’re not doing it right.
Apply the texture to the face, right click on it, choose Texture>Position, right click on it again, choose Rotate>90°.
I agree with @tweenulzeven. you should take the time to learn the fundamentals. Follow the link he gave you.
Ok thanks for the help, I did a sketch up for garden design course a couple of years ago, but it didn’t cover any of the questions I’ve asked, I’ll check out the link you’ve sent, apologies if I’ve wasted peoples time !
We’re here to help..
And yet it’s pretty basic stuff.
Do the SketchUp courses in the learning centre, it’s free and very educational.
SketchUp also has a Youtube channel with very good content about basic stuff but also more advanced.
The Square One series is all about the basics.
The level up series comes after that, a little more advanced.
Thanks again, I often use videos before asking on here, but computers aren’t really my thing so it can be frustrating! I’ll have ago at those online courses
