Layout to pdf. export - different font

I’m experiencing an issue with Layout when exporting to PDF, which is preventing me from completing my projects. Due to this, I’ve had to outsource this part of the job elsewhere, as the results appear unprofessional.

I can share my file and provide a screenshot to illustrate the problem. Please let me know if you’d like me to upload the file here or if a screenshot would be sufficient for you to identify the issue.

First problem: the font in pdf. all looks the same, bold or light… they all look like they are bold.
Second problem: some letters just overlap for no reason.

Thanks in advance for your help!

1st pic. is from Layout

2nd. from pdf… you can see how the scale in the left bottom corner is squeezed, then, also on the right where the white square is the letters are also overlaping… and also everything seems to have the same font type, like all the text is blod and it should be bold and light

Which version of SketchUp Pro?

What font are you using?

Share the LayOut file so we can see what you’ve got going on.

Hmm… I just used Ceramic Tiles / Keramičke pločice in text, and exported to PDF on Mac, and it came out Keramičke pločice as expected. Windows, same. It used Verdana font - what did you use?

I have used Segoe UI Variable Display Semil, when I tried Verdana it was ok.

A search for that font related to PDF export shows a number of sites where others have had issues with encoding that font. Not specific to LayOut.

There are other fonts that have the same issue.

Please correct your forum profile with the operating system version, not all of the hardware in your computer. Also put in the correct information for your graphics card.

Hi DaveR,

I am using SketchUP 24.0.594
Font I would like to use is Segoe UI Variable Display Semil

Here is the link for the file… (not sure why is taht big)

Please correct your forum profile.

I saw your previous post and replied to it. I think you need to choose a different font.

ok I will, in a few hours when I am back at the computer.

A few off-topic notes about your LO file.

Summary

I had a general look at your LayOut and SketchUp model files. First, I notice that you’ve modified the scene’s Camera properties. It looks like you double clicked into the viewport to pan the camera from what you have set up in the scene.

If the Camera gets reset it will kind of ruin the setup and create more work for you.

Looking at the scene in SketchUp you have the model shifted off to the left.

If you set up the scene correctly, centering the model in the model window as below, there’d be no reason to modify the Camera position in LayOut.

Corrected in LayOut, then, it looks like this.

Even if you didn’t center the view of the model in the model space, simply dragging the edges of the viewport would allow you to show the whole thing without modifying the Camera.

I also notice incorrect tag usage and unused stuff to purge in the SketchUp model.

Using tags correctly (all edges and faces untagged, only groups and components get tags) and keeping the model clean will improve your workflow in LayOut.

Most of your geometry is ungrouped. You should be using groups and components in your model. Also keep your model close to the origin. Don’t spread it out at a long distance as you have.

Hi DaveR,
Thank you for your time and feedback.
Yes I usually group walls, windows furniture etc…use tags as well, however in this case I started this floorplan for a friend of mine and wanted to see if the Layout and converting it to pdf. will look ok.
Thank you for the notes about setting up the scene correctly…

Best,
Aleks
