Hi I’m on SU 2021 PRO latest version and have an issue with Layout that I can’t seem to resolve. The issue is a blank box in the top corner of my layout screen which is partially coveting my main toolbar and some of my shortcut toolbars
I’d uninstalled SketchUp and reinstalled it again ( latest version) the the problem still persists. The blank box derived from a menu which I tried to delete. I managed to delete the contents but not the box which I can’t get rid of. I can’t get to the Edit/ preferences commands to check if I can re- path to my original Layout template. Also, when I hover over my previously created preference menus Layout immediately crashes into Bugsplat.
Is there anything anyone can suggest to resolve this issue?

When you installed SketchUp did you right click on the downloaded installer and choose Run as administrator?
Hi Dave
Yes, I installed it as Administrator

Do you have multiple monitors attached? What scale setting do they have?
Hi Mike
No, I’ve got it on a lap top so I either use the lap top monitor or when in the office a separate monitor
Brent
could be related to the .json files
try deleting or renaming the .json files in
%AppData%/SketchUp/SketchUp 2020/LayOut
(Hidden folder)
Hi Mike
I tried re-naming the files then deleting them
I re-started my pc and repairing layout
Unfortunately the partial blocking of my tool bars is still there on my layout screen
Any other ideas?

Hi Mike
Not sure if this is clear from the attached photo but it’s the area in the top left of the Layout screen that’s causing the problem
Appreciate your help in this

Can you share a screenshot?

Between the screen shot and the statement
Leads me to believe that instead of hiding or turning off the Default Trtay, you removed all of the inspector windows from the tray leaving the tray empty. I don’t know why you would do that, especially since the inspector panels are important for interfacing with the elements of LayOut projects.
Try this: Close LayOut. In File Explorer go to User/AppData/Local/SketchUp/SketchUp 2021/LayOut and delete layout.private.json. Then restart LayOut. That should restore the tray. If you really don’t want to see the tray, go to the Window menu and click on Hide Tray.
Yes, it was a mistake on my part in my rush to get a project out.
I’ve deleted the private.jpson file as suggested but when I open Layout the blank box is still there and for some reason the layout.private.json file reappears in the App data/local/ SketchUp/layout 2021 folder.
I’ve noted that it moves to the recycled folder. Does it have to be deleted from the recycled bin?

It’s supposed to do that. LayOut generates a new file if there isn’t one. That was the point of deleting it; to get a new one created in its place.
Try this then.
Close LayOut
Download the attached zip file and extract the .xml file.
Go to User/AppData/Roaming/SketchUp/SketchUp 2021/LayOut/
Replace the file called UserInspectorLayOut.xml with the one her.
UserInspectorLayout.zip (539 Bytes)
Result!!!
That appears to have done the trick
Thanks you so much for your help with this Dave/ Mike it’s really appreciated
I won’t be making that mistake again
