I am experiencing a new issue where any scene I export from sketchup to layout that has no visible objects in it, is appearing as a large black box.
This is important because I am exporting a series of 5-15 scenes as a group layered atop one another using the CONDOC extension (generating scenes and exporting them as grouped scenes) to create floor plans. Not every layer is filled for every project. For example a scene which only shows exterior walls of existing buildings will not have any objects in it for a build of fully new construction. Previously these layers just exported as empty scenes and had no effect on the visual. And this is how they still appear on layout. However if I am to export layout to PDF, the scene will be fully black.
These black layers are not easy to delete as there are no objects in them and so they are not easily selectable. I just need to fix the issue that is causing fully empty scenes to export as black boxes.
In digging around myself, I think the issue might have began occuring when I updated my MAC to the new Sequoia 15.0 Update? I am not sure why this would cause this issue, but it is the only thing I can think that has changed in the last week.
I couldn’t replicate this on my Windows PC. When you select the viewport in LayOut, do any of the view properties show as modified? Can you reset the viewport?
Can you post a simple LayOut file that shows this problem?
Layout Test File.pdf (2.0 MB)
the layout and sketchup files I was using are too big, ill have to make a simple one when I have a moment. here is an image of what I am talking about.
the same viewports, but when i reduce its height to no longer show anything in the scene that shows only the existing walls (the rear structure is all new construction) it blacks everything out.
Layout’s experimental graphics engine. When it is on, I can see the black scene layer. When it is off, I cannot. But it will export the black layer either way.
Thank you for trying to help me diagnose this. I returned sketchup to the classic engine, saved the file, closed both programs, opened layout and updated the model reference. The same error still occured.
@Nolando Thanks for running those tests for me. Were you able to make the simple version of the file that you could share so that we could look at this internally? If you want, you could share it with me directly so it isn’t publicly available.
