Layout keeps shutting down today. Most of the time there is no bugsplat. The last time I got the Crash # 16150.
The file isn’t large and I have max 4 viewports open at a time on each page. I have tried switching between vector and raster for the view ports but it still closes unexpectedly.
My immediate guess would be the PC/graphics card but I am no expert.
Thank you DaveR, I have had a look at the link but nothing jumps out as the reason for my troubles today.
In the meantime I noticed one single viewport was a problem with Layout crashing only when I switched between vector and raster on that viewport. I deleted it and am tentatively trying to continue working.
Well that didn’t last long. Neither SU or LO will stay up for more than one mouse click on these files. I am going to have to start a fresh to try to get some work done today. Very frustrating.
Hmmm … I got a silent crash of LayOut as well as SketchUp after opening your SketchUp file. Time to try to dig into the SketchUp model a bit. I do notice a couple of things already that aren’t good. A key one is that you have no scenes and you’re using the Last saved SketchUp view in LayOut for all of the viewports. This is definitely not a wise thing to do unless this is a one-off document you’ll never need to go back to. You really should be creating scenes for the different views of your model.
In the SketchUp model I found some incorrect tag usage.
And some unused stuff to purge.
There’s a tag for “Image” in your model but that tag got purged. What was the image that had that tag?
Thanks you DaveR. I have never known about scenes so I’ll def look into that. Tags are new to me also. I have to admit that I don’t know why there are incorrect tags usage.
I wonder if it has anything to do with that image. After cleaning up the .skp file I was able to relink it to the LayOut file and both SU and LO have been behaving themselves. I’ll send you the file in a PM shortly.
As for the viewport thing, here’s an illustration of one of the problems you can have but not using scenes, and modifying the Camera in LayOut. First, your viewport as you set it up.
You should probably take some time to go through the tutorials at learn.sketchup.com
Scenes are important because they establish camera positions and other properties which then become sort of fixed views of the model. This makes what you do in LayOut stable. There are other benefits, too.
As for tags, all edges and faces should be created AND REMAIN untagged. Only groups and components should be given tags. Tagging geometry (edges and faces) just leads to errors and problems.
