Since I upgraded to 2026, I’m having a lot of trouble creating and printing PDFs from Layout. I’m using a Dell Precision 3460 running Windows 11 Pro.
It has been my practice to use PDF995 to print PDFs (although Adobe seems to be adding features and I may let go of PDF995). That worked fine until 2026.
Now:
when I use PDF995, the output is a blank page.
when I use Adobe PDF or Microsoft print to PDF, the page is not centered correctly (the right and bottom side of my image run off the page). I assume this is some kind of margins/format problem.
when I use “export” rather than print, the PDF file looks correct, but when I print a hard copy, I get the same problem as the PDF created per (2) above.
Any ideas? It seems like people are having problems with Layout 2026; does anyone know if Trimble is working on it?
Hi Dave–Adobe Acrobat. I just revised the print margins in Layout and was able to get it print properly, so maybe I just need to do that for all my Layout files! One other glitch I notice is that for PDFs created with the export method, sometimes chunks of the image (a whole block of text, etc.) doesn’t appear on screen when displayed at a certain size on the display, but then reappears if you zoom in or out (and I just printed a sheet with that problem and the print came out fine).
I just had to revise the margins to move everything printed on the page to the left and up. It took several iterations to get the dimension right but now the print looks fine.
I’m viewing PDFs with Adobe Acrobat. When I open a file, sometimes the sheet doesn’t appear all at once, but appears in chunks over the space of a couple seconds (and sometimes some chunks don’t appear at all).
I’ll update my profile but I’m using two monitors: one with an NVIDIA T1000 and the other with an Intel UHD Graphics 770.
So you don’t have the margins centered on the page?
Ok. I see that sometimes with vector graphics heavy files I get from other sources that have absolutely nothing to do with LayOut.
It would be interesting to see one of your LO files that does this.
Thanks. The T1000 is getting pretty long in the tooth and the integrated Intel adaptor won’t really be suitable for SketchUp 2026. It would be worth looking into better GPUs.
No, it’s not centered. I’ve set up a 24 x 36 sheet with larger margins so that I can print at 50% to 11x17 and the drawing is still to scale.
Is there a way for me to send you a LO file (not post it to the public board)?
Do you have any suggestions for up-to-date GPUs?
Click on my name and then “Message” and send it in a private message. Most likely you’ll need to upload the file to DropBox or similar and then share the link.
The nVidia Geforce RTX graphics cards seem to b pretty much bullet proof.
Hi Dave–I rarely print at full-scale, but the contractors do (job site sets, etc.)
Would it be helpful for you to see the Layout file, a resulting PDF, or both?
Re: graphics cards, I assume one card handles display 1 and the other card handles display 2. Could I pick one display that will be my default for displaying SU and LO, and upgrade the card for that display? Or is it better to upgrade both? I notice that some of those cards retail for $600 plus each!
Both would be good. I’ll see what I see when I open your PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader on my machine as well as what I get with my own export.
It might be that yours is set up that way. On my desktop machine I have three displays served by one nVidia GT4060Ti. On my notebook computer I can run the internal display and another off the same nVidia card.
Not sure you can do that.
The Intel GPU is an integrated one. It’s part of the CPU so you can’t remove it. As for replacing the other, you should check with a local computer shop and get their advice.Might make more sense to replace the entire computer considering its age. (based on the age of the T1000.
