I have to wind back and use LO2025 to export some files as LO2026 persistently crashes on export PDF. Other files don’t seem to be affected. I do submit all my Bugsplats.
I also get some of these crashes. As soon as the latest version appears to be unstable I scrap it and go back to a version that is stable. I have recently been using Su 2026 and Layout 2023. There are formatting problems sometimes but the reality is I need to get things done. I do give the latest release a try. My feeling is the Sketchup team doesnt do beta testing on real projects. It seems like they use us as beta testers. One thing that caught my attention a while back was a discussion about Dark Mode (I could care less about Dark Mode) where a team member commented about how a version on the Ipad or maybe it was the online version that had the feature. It doesnt matter but the point was that the software that could be changed was new and changing Sketchup desktop or Mac was a problem because it was on old code. I remember back around Windows 95 Microsoft finally had to totally rewrite Windows as the PC version was evolved from the DOS roots of the software and the “UNIX” version was brought out Windows NT still wasnt the fix and they rewrote the whole thing. I think its probably time for Sketchup to do a rewrite. A bicycle innertube can only be patched so many times. Bottom line is we need a stable version compatibility with older versions will go away.
I was able to fix my Layout silent crash while trying to export tot PDF.
For my file the problem was when i want to export Vector and Hybrid viewports, where a Sketchup dimension is visible in the viewport. If i delete or put the sketchup dimension on a hidden tag, I could export tot PDF without problem.
Hope this helps somebody with the same problem.
That’s an odd thing. Your profile indicates you are using SketchUp 2021. Is that correct?
Out of curiosity, what font are you using for the the dimensions in SketchUp? Do you get the same failure to export if you have a very simple model such as a rectangle with a visible dimension?
Currently i’m still using Sketchup 2024 (i don’t like the user interface since version 2025, for several reasons) but i use Layout 2026 (version 26.2.243)

Can you share a sample LO file that won’t export for you?
I just made a sample file using Arial for dimensions in SketchUp and exported a PDF from LO with no problems using both SU 2026 and LO 2026. I wonder if you have something else going on too.
I was able to recreate the bug.
It seems to have something to do with a Sketchup dimensions or Sketchup Leader-text set to Point or Height in a vector/Hybrid viewport in Layout.
Dimensions set to Points render correctly in the Layout Vector viewport, and export to PDF without problem.
Dimensions (and leadertext) set to Height don’t show the unit in the vector viewport, but only the dimensions lines and extensions of the dimension.
When trying to export this vector viewport to PDF it makes a silent crash and generates a 0Kb PDF.

I can see the same issue now. When I try to open the PDF I get the following message.
Maybe @adam has some input. Maybe it’ll be fixed in the next release. Keep your fingers crossed.

The good news is that I believe we know what the issue is:
That label’s text bounds wasn’t correctly calculated before. We have potentially fixed this, but it required a manual re-render of affected viewports:
After that, exporting generated a working pdf file. The bad news is that you’re going to have to wait until our next release to get this fix.

thanks for the update Adam. On the bright side the export works if the size is ste to Points so it’s still workable.
I havent had PDF export crashes for a while. The same file I exported yesterday is now crashing. Only a few edits to the model and some new annotations. Its not a large file. I tried an older version of the same file it still crashes. Tried making all view ports raster. The same file that exported a couple of days ago crashes too.
