Layout 2025 won't update sketchup reference

Hey! new user to Layout and beginner user in general. I have a layout document that I need to make one more update on. I’ve adjusted the sketchup file, but when I go to document setup in layout and try to update the reference, it is not doing it. I’ve saved the sketchup file and done everything that I normally do. I’m not sure what’s going on and looking for some layout advice

Side note: I’ve gone through perhaps 3-4 revisions to the initial sketchup model that I uploaded to layout. each time I’ve updated the reference in layout before it took multiple tries and layout would crash every time until it finally worked. This is the first time however that it just won’t do it.

Share the LayOut and SketchUp files so we can see what you have setup.

The references list indicated that the .skp file was “Out of date” when I opened your LO file. I clicked the Update button and it updated with no problem. Do you by any chance have Auto Render turned off? What were the last changes you made to the SketchUp model before LO wouldn’t update?

The common reasons we see for what you describe are that the scene properties for the viewports have been overridden. Commonly it’s modifying the Camera properties that is the main problem. Or the user has been editing the wrong SketchUp file. This is more common with Mac users but I’ve seen it with Windows users, too. However in your situation neither of those appears to be the culprit.

I made an edit to your model and softened the edges of the terrain for the perspective views. I also fixed some incorrect tag usage and purged unused stuff from the model. Then I updated the reference again and it did as expected. I noticed that the lower perspective view on the first sheet has had its camera properties modified. It would be a good idea to reset the Camera for that viewport.

Have you had an opportunity to save and close both files and then open the LO file again? I wonder what the References list would show for the .skp file.

FWIW, if you open the .skp file from LayOut, saved changes to the .skp file should automatically update in your LO file when you go back to LayOut.

If you want them, I will send back the files after I made the small changes.

Copy, so to clarify there are no problems on your end. That’s good, I just don’t understand why it won’t work on my end.

On my end when I click the update button it shows all layers for every scene rather than the selected layers for the specific scene. And it also doesn’t actually fully update. It continues to show “missing” in the references panel under status in document set up. What should I do to get mine to update?

Correct. I had no trouble updating with the file you shared.

I’m not following that. Are you referring to the tags in the SketchUp model? Is it showing all the tags as visible? Or are you just seeing all of the tags in the list in the Tags section of the SketchUp Model panel?

Did you move the .skp file to a different directory? Are you saving it directly to a cloud location?

Select the .skp reference in the References list, click on Relink, and then navigate to where you’ve saved the .skp file and select it.

sorry, I misused some words. that is not what I meant. Rather When I try to hit the update button (it doesn’t actually update fully), it messes up the layout document and on each scene that is in the document every group from the sketchup model is in it (rather than the specific groups that were selected for each scene).

I don’t believe I’ve changed the location of where I save this .skp file. I am not saving it directly to a cloud location, I’m saving it on my hard drive.

as im responding to this I did this and it worked!

Thank you so so much for all the help

How were these groups selected for the scene?

Are you copying from SketchUp and pasting into LayOut.

So is everything straightened out now? If so, good deal.

And you’re quite welcome.

negative I would input a scene into layout and from there I would copy and paste within layout

Everything is straight now!
Thanks again!
