Layout 2025 - Copy/paste create a png instead object

Hello,
In Layout when I want to copy/paste a sketchup object is creating a png file instead a new object.

I tried with different file or object and it’s the same.
Regards.

Copying from SketchUp and into LayOut is the incorrect way to get the SketchUp file into LayOut. Use one of the two correct procedures. Either use File>Send to LayOut in SketchUp or use File>Insert in LayOut. Once you have the first viewport established in LayOut you can copy that viewport and paste it within the document.

Hello Dave,

I am the person experiencing issues with Layout. Thank you for your quick reply.
I am doing it the right way. I tried both options and it still doesn’t work.

The first viewport is created properly in Layout, but when I try to copy that viewport, it gets pasted as a .png
I’ve been working with Layout for years, and this is the first time I’ve encountered this issue.

I also installed the latest version and tried opening new files, but the problem remains.
It seems to be a major bug in Layout.

Could you please help me find a solution ?
I’m currently unable to work properly, and it’s affecting my projects.

Thank you in advance,
Best regards,

This can happen if your SketchUp model is too large to be copied into the Operating System’s pasteboard. As a result, only the raster render is copied, so when you paste, just an image is pasted.

Try using move/copy or the duplicate command for this large model. If you need to move to a new page, you can work around this by making a temporary shared layer, move your viewport to that layer, then convert the layer to non-shared, choosing to copy to every page. Then you would need to delete the viewport from any page you didn’t want it to be on.

Hope that helps,
Adam

Based on Adam’s remarks, it might be worth also looking at your SketchUp file and giving it a good cleanup.

Opening the SKP in SketchUp and purging unused environments, should solve the problem.
