Layers - tree hierarchy?

Hello again,

I was struggling with layers but advice from this forum sorted me out… That said Is there a way/extension to assign ~10 sub-layers to a main layer in the display window to clean up the list?

I get how to make a larger and larger group to encompass multiple smaller groups and can toggle it on/off easily, But the list is growing ever longer and longer making finding something slower and slower.

example, the frame of this trailer might have 10-20 subgroups/layers combined under the layer “Frame”… Easy enough to turn “frame” on/off… Just all the 20 subgroups/layers show in the list, Can i collapse the list somehow like windows explorer nav tree?

What version of SketchUp are you using? Please complete your forum profile.

SketchUp hasn’t used layers for years. They are called Tags. There’s no such thing as “sub-layers” or “main layers”. You can create tag folders into which you can collect tags. And it’s possible to create tag folders inside of tag folders if needed.

This is the perfect use case for Tag Folders. But we don’t know if you have access to them because your profile does not list the version of SketchUp you are using. If you fill out your forum profile with correct information you will get correct answers. :+1:

Sorry,

Sketchup 8… It works for me and would rather not buy/subscribe a newer version.

I can’t use an online version as i am on DSL…

Sorry too! Tag folders were not available as of SketchUp 8.

Modelling in the online version doesn’t need a fast internet connection. It uses the connection only for logging in, saving, downloading, the 3D Warehouse and maybe some other online features, but modelling itself doesn’t require a connection…
