Lag with move tool

I keep getting lag when using the move tool. I keep getting bug splats when closing files, and I keep getting told to revert back to the old graphics engine. Can someone tell me why a 4080 super with 64 gb of ram and a 14 gen i-9 with Win 11 pro is not good enough to run the new graphics engine?

Is SketchUp actually using the 4080 graphics card?

I have a 4060 and see no problems.

Did you install SketchUp 2024 correctly? On windows that requires right clicking on the downloaded installer and selecting Run as administrator.

BTW, please update your profile. It shows you are using SU2022/2023 and a 3060 graphics card.

yes , yes , and when I get time. Im too busy always having to sign into my SketchUp account to use it. Also, Ive been a user since Sketchup 5 so I know how to model. All I get from the bug splat help desk is revert back to the old engine.

Sorry for trying to help.

I didn’t ask you if you know how to model.

It will be a question at some point, just trying to preempt anything to get to the answer. Just wondering my skp is laggy when using the move tool when I activate it, rotate, or copy. Ive turned off autosave, thumbnails, reduced anti-alias to 2. I do not use max textures. Every mat is below 2048 size. I purge like a detox diet. Rolling back to the old engine is just a dumb answer for a help desk.

A forum is not the same as a help desk. Dave did not, but might ask about modeling technique as we get so many users who have not completed the Fundamentals courses - which would solve a majority of their issues.

Your original question is really hard to diagnose without more information. Have you restarted your computer recently? Are you using the latest version of SU? Have you tried disabling the new graphics engine? If so does it resolve the issue? Does this happen on every single model or just particular ones? When did this start happening?

See how many questions we have to ask to get enough information to try to diagnose. It could be any number of things causing a lag. Create and share a screen cap of what you’re seeing so we can at least see what you mean by ‘lag’.

I think this is related to another post i have where my SSD is at 100% while using SketchUp. I’ve been noticing once SketchUp gets finished doing what is does with the SSD and it goes back down to a lower usage level I don’t have the crazy Lag.

What does this mean? SSD is short for Soild State Drive…or hard disk. Unlike apps like Photoshop, SketchUp doesn’t require an additional Scratch disk space to operate. Having too little hard drive space can become a performance issue for some apps, bu not SketchUp (I’m sure there’s a min to run SU - but doesn’t expand usage while running).

if his machine is trying to index stuff from the 12 massive files upon launch, I wouldn’t be surprised it impacts basic navigation as well.

It turned out the other issue isn’t related. I will try some tests by having a bunch of big recent files, and see if that process does keep running for a few minutes.
