I’m not all that bright but I noticed that when using the polygon tool to make a hexagon and I think the Inscribed and Circumscribed labels are backwards. Not an expert so correct me if I am wrong. Just wanted to see what some of you think.
I remember it as inradius = the inside circle and Circumcircle Radius = the outer circle that the entire hexagon fits in
Again, not an expert, so take it easy on me if I’m wrong haha
I think you might be confused when viewing the bottom bar. When you place a polygon the ‘option’ will switch to the opposite displayed on the screen. If you look at the measurements it informs you what you are working with.
Here I have a polygon placed on the work surface.
Inscribed polygon placed on drawing surface option to change to circumscribed
Circumscribed after selecting ‘option’ in the above case increase the size of the original polygon for the same radius. ‘Option’ will now revert to inscribed.
Inscribed here means that the polygon can be inscribed in the circle, not that the circle can be inscribed in the polygon. (The similar applies to circumscribed …)
This has been the case since the beginning of time of Sketchup… if I remember correctly.
You are right, at first glance it may be confusing. But since you are drawing a regular polygon (with n > 2 segments) inside or outside a certain circle, here you are looking for the inscribed or circumscribed regular polygon that you can toggle for with the [Ctrl] key or [Cmd] key.
