Issues After Updating SketchUp on My New AI PC

I recently updated SketchUp to the latest version [2024.0] on my new AI PC, and I’ve been experiencing several issues since the update:

  • Slow performance: SketchUp is lagging, especially when working on larger models or when zooming/panning.
  • Crashes: The software crashes unexpectedly, sometimes causing me to lose my work.
  • Graphics glitches: I’m noticing strange visual artifacts or display problems when modeling.
  • Extensions not working: Some of the extensions I regularly use either don’t load or cause SketchUp to freeze.

I’ve tried restarting the PC, updating my graphics drivers, and reinstalling SketchUp, but the issues remain. Has anyone else faced similar problems with SketchUp updates on AI-based computers? Any help or advice would be appreciated!

Hi @judywatson. Thanks for the post. I am not familiar with that particular brand of computer but generally speaking there could be a number of different causes for your issues. The biggest cause for slow performance is over-detailed objects or a lack of general efficiency in modeling. I am happy to check an example model for this sort of thing if you are willing to share a file with me and report any findings.

Additionally, extensions are not technically part of SketchUp and can cause instability if they are not rated for a particular version. If you are using them, disable them all and see if that improves stability. If it does, start reenabling them one by one to determine what one is causing the instability and then message the developer of that extension to see if they know what is going on.

Finally, if you are getting bugsplats, I can message some of our team members who have access to the submitted errors and we may be able to find out what the cause of the crashes are, provided that you are submitting them of course.

Also, can you please make sure your profile is accurate in terms of hardware information and software version? It will make looking up crash info a lot faster for us if you can confirm that it is accurate.

I notice that the Lenovo AI series all appear to use integrated graphics. It could be that there is incompatibility with SketchUp’s new graphics engine. Try switching to the old classic graphics in SketchUp’s settings and see if that helps.

What version of SketchUp are you really using? Your profile says “Free Plan”. That implie the web-based version which runs in your internet browser.
