Is there a better way to do different height windows in plan views in Sketchup - Layout?

So I’ve been using Sketchup and Layout for many years now. Whenever I do plan views for construction documents or presentation work, I make a section cut through the building. However, often times there are windows that are higher than the doors so the section cut doesn’t go through them. For those cases I have to manually draw in the windows in Layout for my presentation or construction document.

My question is that, is there a better way to do this? Is there some kind of layering technique I can use? What tips and tricks do you guys use? Or is there some plugin that can help me trivilaize this?

I use stacked viewports in LayOut.

Make an additional scene with a section cut higher up.

In LayOut use layers and use the two cuts on top of each other.

Sometimes this requires resizing the bounding box of the upper view so you don’t hide your doors / etc. Generally I just resize the blue box around the upper cut but sometimes with complex rooflines / dormer I will use a clipping mask in LayOut to isolate the part of the view I want to show.

That’s a great tip! I wonder why I haven’t thought of that before. Very much appreciated!

My doors and windows (and all furniture objects that i use) include a group of 3d geometery as well as a seperate group containing a 2d symbol (on a seperate tag) that hovers above the 3d object .

When looking in plan view i hide the tag with the 3d object and show the tag with the 2d symbol. They always appear at the same level (top of the wall).

The symbols are simple black and white style while the 3d furniture has more detail.
