Is anyone having these problems with SketchUp on the Mac?

Last night everything was fine with my project but when opening today everything was locked and I could not select items in the model . I went to Edit>Unlock All but still not able to select items.

My Orbit tool started working backwards. I thought it was a problem with the Axis tool. Watched a tutorial on how to reset it. I went to Tools>Axis and clicked on where the red, green, blue lines converge. It says to right click or Control click to reset it. I am not getting the list choice to select Reset.

Has the recovered files been removed in the 2026 version of SketchUp? I can’t go back to a previous version now. I tried opening the Finder, went to the top menu Go, added the option key to select Library, and worked through the folders and the recovered version was empty and it does not show up under the top File opening choices.

When I save the model everything is fine. When I open it the next morning items have been deleted, walls moved & Distorted, new lines, shapes drawn on it. What is causing this?

When working on the computer I have seen another cursor not mine on the screen and a clock and a black rectangle down the left side of the screen. This was in the 2025 Mac version. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on what is causing this? How secure is the new SketchUp from hackers and nearby neighbors hy-jacking Blue Tooth. I did a factory reset and reloaded everything, 2 new routers, new VPN, & turn everything off when not using it like Internet, Computer etc.

Where are you saving the models? The safest place to save them is the same drive SketchUp is installed. Can you upload the model to the forum for examination? Are you using a cr acked SketchUp version?

You are using 2025?
Is it a licensed version from here:

If it is, did you upgrade to 2026 from that same page?

So you went out and bought new routers?

I doubt this is related to SKP from official Trimble sources. What else have you downloaded and installed?

Usually we suggest replying with a copy of a model that is giving you trouble - but after reading that last paragraph I don’t want anything to do with any files you might post.

On my Mac I am saving to the documents folder on my computer. Since I am having problems I am also saving on a remote hard drive which I unplug. This is the only one which stays the way I left it. I am currently working on the 2026 Version.

After working in 2025 version I did a factory reset and then loaded the 2026 version of SketchUp. I have only loaded again the new the SketchUp extensions which have been trusted.

Yes, I have bought new routers.

If I experienced things like a strange cursor and a clock I hadn’t put there, I would be seriously concerned that my Mac had been invaded by malware! Macs are pretty secure, but not invulnerable - especially if you aren’t careful where you get what install and what websites you visit!

Pretty sure the routers would not be the issue. This is like seeing a stranger going in and out of your refrigerator while you are cooking dinner. Your driveway isn’t compromised, your house is.

Did your SKP 2025 and 2026 come from the page I linked to?

Do you use TimeMachine? The incremental backups have saved me a few times…

If not TimeMachine do you have another standard backup plan?

I have Malware Bytes installed and have been working with them but so far they are not seeing anything. Fingers crossed for a good solution.

Good backup suggestions, I have not tried this one yet.

You described perfectly how I feel, hoping for a solution!

I had version 2025 but wiped it away with the factory reset and went to Trimble to download 2026 so I had a clean slate.

Did you received a call from Kolkata or New Delhi, telling you that you’re subscribed to something and they wanted to help you tú unsubscribe so you don’t have to pay?

No, I have not gotten that one. It does seem like there are a lot of scams going on right now.

I would agree with slbaumgartner on that - I have witness a very malware compromised Mac and it had similar things going on to what you just described…

This was the reason I wiped my computer out with the factory reset in case it was compromised. I got the Malware Bytes and wondered if there is anything else I should be doing to keep my digital work safe. I appreciate your feedback and knowing I am not the only one with this challenge.

I’m surprised people actually install malwarebytes, it has has a bad reputation for years, bordering the malware itself, it hogs ressources and does constant scans when mac os itself is actually very security oriented.

It’s the sae on pc, turns out microsoft defender does the job. And it’s far less intrusive than the external solution out there.

So if I had your machine in front of me, the first action I would take is uninstall malwarbytes, and then google how to get rid of any traces of it…

I tried malwarebytes years ago. it did more damage that good. I agree, get rid of it.
