Weird phenomenom

The last few days I’ve been working on a model that replicates a section of the back of our house in preparation for an addition to add a overhang/roof over a couple of weather exposed rear doors. This issue has occurred a couple of times.

After modeling for a while SketchUp gets well, not exactly responsive. I will select a tool (e.g. line tool) but SketchUp will pick another tool (e.g. Orbit). Or I will attempt to draw a new line by placing my mouse pointer over an end point (e.g. edge of a circle) but the line tool will not present the green dot representing the start point. If I re-select the tool and try again, still no go. It’s like SketchUp is saying, “hey, I’m tired of drawing/editing, I need a break”.

So I save my file and quit SketchUp. When I re-open SketchUp and my file, everything is fine again. It seems that working for extended periods (several minutes) on drawing/editing causes this issue. Recovery is easy enough and I save often so it’s really just an annoyance but I wondered if anyone else has a similar problem.

I’m not sure it matters but here is my model:

YES.

This topic reports loosing inferences on both platforms (Win and Mac) from version 2017 up through 2024.

There are also reports of the context menu stops working requiring a restart to bring it back:

For mouse related issues, see if there are updated mouse drivers available.
Also, if you are using a UHD or 4K (or higher) display make sure that you have a high resolution mouse.

See if there is any difference between using the classic graphics driver as opposed to the new one (applies to SU 2024+).

If all else fails (including on Windows rerunning installer and choosing Repair) find a memory test utility and test your system RAM.

Also note that there are reported issues with high resolution settings and Mac Metal in recent MacOS updates:

Dan, thanks for the references. I thought a reference might pop up when I typed up my problem but I didn’t see any of the ones you list. The reference that seems to describe what I see is the first, “Ongoing issue with SketchUp on Mac”. As such, I think I can just close my post and follow what is already posted.
Thanks for your quick response.

I have internal builds of SketchUp that I can make show the problems you’ve seen, but in the release version the same steps don’t cause a problem. If you find steps that always lead to the problem, please let me know the steps.

For the one about the context menu stops working, something was put into 2025 to help with that issue.
