I'm so zoomed out I get back to a regular screen

I might have pressed a few buttons accidentally and I’m so far out I can’t even see my design. All I see is the axis and the plus sign. My objects I designed still exist. I just cant zoom back in.

Can we assume you have tried zoom extents?

Maybe you can try this:

1 - Save your model with a new name just to be safe that you don’t erase what you already have saved.

2 - Then, start a new file.

3 - Import the file you saved in step 1.

4 - If you see nothing, do a Zoom Extend.

5 - Make sure that you have nothing hidden, you should not with a new file, unless your template has particular settings.

Shift Z

You may have a very tiny geometry very far from the main model that prevent Zoom Extend from showing the main part of the model, depending on the camera position.

If your model contains some groups or components, you can use the Outliner to zoom on a particular object.

The best would be for you to post your skp file here so we can have a look and find the problem without guessing.

The outliner definitely helped! Hope it doesn’t happen again!

Here is a trick.

Since you are able to see what you need using the outliner, try that:

1 - Select the object in the outliner and then zoom on selection. I presue that you already did that since it seems that you found your model.

2 - Select all. This select everything including any stray geometry that may be the cause of the problem.

3 - Press and hold down the Shift key to Add/Subtract to/from the selection.

4 - While still pressing the Shift key, select your model using a window select, for example. This, in fact, deselect it since it was already selected at step 2. Only the stray geometry, wherever it is remains selected.

5 - Release the Shift key then press the Delete key. Only the model remains.

6 - Save.

Using this procedure allows you to keep the file intact with all the scenes, tabs, styles, etc.

I also suggest to do that on a copy of the file. That way, you can revert back to the original file if something goes bad.

You may also combine the two procedures like that:

1 - Copy the problematic file.

2 - Open the copy.

3 - Select all.

4 - Delete.

5 - Save. Now you have an empty model file with all scenes, tabs, styles, components, etc. still inside the file.

6 - Open the problematic file ans select the model with the Outliner.

7 - Copy that model.

8 - Paste it in the other file.

A faster procedure is, after you select the model from the Outliner, to copy the selection and paste it in a brand new SketchUp file. However, you lose all the scenes, tabs, etc.
